What's inside

  • A two-week calendar: date, time, type, pillar, post text with a count against X's 280-character limit, media, hashtags and status
  • A thread planner that drafts each post in a thread with its own character count
  • A weekly review of impressions, engagements, replies, reposts and link clicks, with what to change
  • A filled example for Northgate Cycles, a fictional bike shop (every figure is made up), and a blank CSV of each sheet

How to use it

  1. Pick three or four pillars, such as tips, shop news, local riding and questions for your followers.
  2. Plan fewer, better posts and set aside time to reply. On X, replies are part of the plan, not an extra.
  3. Write each post in the sheet and check the count. X's standard limit is 280 characters; longer posts need a paid X subscription.
  4. Add media where it helps: X allows up to four media items in a post.
  5. Use hashtags sparingly. X's help centre recommends no more than two per post.
  6. Draft threads in the thread planner first, so each post makes sense on its own.
  7. At the end of each week, fill the review and move next week's plan towards what started conversations.

Tips

  • Northgate Cycles, its staff and every figure in the example are made up. The posting times are the example shop's choices, not a recommendation.
  • X's help centre says you can compose a post of up to 280 characters, that longer posts are a feature of paid X subscriptions, and that a post can include up to four media items (checked on 15 October 2026).
  • X's help centre recommends using no more than two hashtags per post as best practice (checked on 15 October 2026). The calendar has a column so it's easy to check.
  • Plan reply sessions as well as posts. Twenty minutes answering people on a set day is easier to keep up than replying whenever you remember.
  • Ask before posting photos of customers or group rides, and note in the media column that they agreed.
  • Zolyp, which makes this template, writes each platform its own version of a post: an X post is trimmed to 280 characters while the LinkedIn version is not, and you approve each one before it goes out.

Common questions

What should an X content calendar include?

The date, time, type (post, thread, poll or reply session), pillar, the post text and its character count, media, hashtags and a status. A thread planner and a weekly review make it easier to keep going.

How many characters can an X post have?

X's help centre, checked on 15 October 2026, says you can compose a post of up to 280 characters. Longer posts are a feature of X's paid subscriptions.

How many hashtags should I use on X?

X's help centre recommends no more than two hashtags per post as best practice, although you can use more. Checked on 15 October 2026.

Are the figures in the example real?

No. The bike shop and every figure are made up to show how a filled calendar and review read. The character counts are correct for the example posts.
