What's inside

  • A giveaway plan: goal, prize, eligibility, entry method, dates, winner selection, required statements and tracking
  • A platform rules checklist: what Meta, Instagram and TikTok say, what the example business will do about each rule, and the source page
  • A winner log to record entries, the draw, the notification, the reply and the prize being sent
  • A filled example for Steady Roast, a fictional coffee roaster, and a blank CSV of each sheet

How to use it

  1. Write the goal in one sentence: what should be true after the giveaway that isn't true now?
  2. Pick a prize your customers want and other people don't. A year of your product attracts customers; a gadget attracts prize hunters.
  3. Keep entry free and simple: one action, such as answering a question in the comments.
  4. Go through the platform rules checklist for every platform you'll use, especially Meta's rule on sharing and tagging.
  5. Write official rules with eligibility, dates, how the winner is chosen and how they'll be contacted, and link them from every giveaway post.
  6. Pick the winner exactly as the rules say, record it in the winner log, and announce it where you ran the giveaway.
  7. Check the law where you and your entrants are. Prize promotions are regulated differently in different countries.

Tips

  • Steady Roast, its prize and every figure in the example are made up. The eligibility and dates are the example business's choices.
  • This template isn't legal advice. Platform rules change, so reread each platform's page before you launch, and check the law where you and your entrants are.
  • A giveaway that asks a question brings entrants who care about what you sell. A like-and-follow giveaway tends to bring people who only want the prize.
  • Scammers copy giveaway posts. Say in every post that winners will only be contacted by your official account and will never be asked to pay or share card details.
  • Pick the winner exactly the way the rules say, with someone watching, and keep the record for as long as the rules say you will.
  • Zolyp, which makes this template, can write and schedule the launch, reminder and winner posts across platforms; you approve each one, and checking the rules stays with you.

Common questions

Can I ask people to tag a friend or share the post to enter?

Not on a Facebook Page: Meta's Pages, Groups and Events policies say a promotion must not require or incentivise people to share, repost, tag others or otherwise publicise it. Instagram's Promotion Guidelines say not to encourage inaccurate tagging, such as people tagging themselves in photos they aren't in. A simple comment entry avoids both. Checked on 15 October 2026.

What must an Instagram or Facebook giveaway include?

Meta and Instagram both say you're responsible for running it lawfully, including official rules, offer terms and eligibility. Entrants must release Instagram (and, on Facebook, Meta) from liability, and the promotion must acknowledge it isn't sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with them.

Does TikTok have giveaway rules?

TikTok's Community Guidelines, checked on 15 October 2026, say content promoting your own business must use the content disclosure setting, and they don't allow services that artificially increase engagement, such as followers or likes. We didn't find separate contest rules there. If you sell through TikTok Shop, check its own policies.

Can I make people buy something to enter?

Meta's Pages policy counts games where something of monetary value is required to play and something of monetary value is part of the prize as gambling, which needs Meta's prior written permission. Prize law in your country may also apply. Free entry is the simplest route.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's a practical plan with each platform's rules summarised from its own page. Check the current pages and your local law before you launch.
