Social media checklist: daily, weekly and monthly tasks

A social media checklist lists the routine jobs that keep your accounts running: what to do every day, every week and every month, how long each takes and who does it. This one is filled in for a fictional hair salon with two people sharing the work, so you can see a realistic routine of about 15 minutes a day, then adapt the blank version.

What's inside

  • A daily sheet: replies, comments, reviews, Stories and a quick check of what's scheduled
  • A weekly sheet: planning, batching, scheduling, tagging links and a look at last week's results
  • A monthly sheet: reporting, profile checks, access and security, and planning the month ahead
  • Time needed, owner and a done column on every task, filled for a fictional salon, plus blank CSVs

How to use it

  1. Delete the tasks that don't apply to the platforms you use, and add any your business needs.
  2. Put a realistic time against each task. If the daily list is over 30 minutes, cut it.
  3. Give every task one owner, with a backup for holidays.
  4. Do the daily tasks at the same time each day, such as before opening.
  5. Block an hour on the same day each week for the weekly list, and half a day each month for the monthly list.
  6. Tick tasks off in a copy for each week or month, so you can see what keeps getting skipped.
  7. Review the checklist every quarter and drop tasks that never change anything.

Tips

  • Willow & Wren Hair and its times are made up for this example. Time yourself for a fortnight and replace them with your own.
  • Replies are the task most worth protecting. A post can wait a day; a booking question often can't.
  • Batch the creative work weekly. Filming and writing every day is where routines usually break down.
  • Security tasks feel optional until an account is lost. Keep the monthly access and two-step checks on the list.
  • If a task never leads to a change, cut it. A short checklist people follow beats a long one nobody finishes.
  • Zolyp's Analyze writes a plain-language weekly report on your connected accounts, which covers the 'look at last week' task. Replies still happen in each platform's own inbox.

Common questions

What should be on a daily social media checklist?

Replying to messages and comments, replying to new reviews, a quick Story or update if it suits your business, and a glance at what's scheduled that day. For a small business, 15 to 30 minutes is enough for most days.

What social media tasks should I do weekly?

Review last week's posts, plan and batch next week's content, schedule it, tag links with UTM parameters, update your Google Business Profile and collect customer photos or reviews with permission.

What about monthly tasks?

A short report, next month's plan, a check of profiles, links and hours, a review of who has admin access, two-step verification checks and a decision on what to keep, stop and try.

Are the times in the example realistic for my business?

They're made up for a fictional salon to show the format. Time your own tasks for two weeks, then set the checklist from that.
