How to schedule tweets on X (Twitter)

X Pro (formerly TweetDeck) is X's multi-column dashboard, included with X Premium. It can schedule tweets for every account you've connected to it. The steps from X's help centre:

1. Sign in to X Pro and click Post.
2. Confirm that the account you want to post from is selected.
3. Compose your post, adding images or video with Add images or video if you want them.
4. Click Schedule post and choose the date and time.
5. Click Schedule post at [your date and time] to confirm.

Not as far as X documents it: X's help centre doesn't describe scheduling tweets in the X app for iPhone or Android. The two routes it does document, X Pro and the X Ads Composer, both run in a web browser, so on a phone you'd use them from the browser rather than the app. Some accounts see a schedule icon in the regular composer; X doesn't document that either, so don't count on it.

It depends where you scheduled them:

• In X Pro: add a Scheduled column from Add column in the navigation bar. It lists everything queued, and you can view and edit each post from there.
• In X Ads: open the Posts tab and switch the Posts: Promoted drop-down to Scheduled. Use the three-dot menu on a post to edit or delete it before it goes live.
• Shared X Pro logins: X says every scheduled post for the connected accounts is visible to anyone with access.

The Composer in X Ads can also schedule tweets; X's help page and its video cover both organic (normal) and promoted-only posts. The steps from X's help centre:

1. Log in to ads.x.com and open the Composer tab on the left.
2. Create your post with its copy, photos, videos, or cards.
3. Click the drop-down arrow next to Post in the top right of Composer.
4. Select the date and time the post should go live, then click Schedule.

Partly. X Pro, the scheduler X documents best, needs a paid X Premium subscription. The other free-to-try routes:

• The X Ads Composer at ads.x.com can schedule organic tweets from an ads account.
• Some accounts see a schedule (calendar) icon in the regular x.com composer. It costs nothing, but X doesn't document it, so it may not appear on yours.
• Third-party schedulers with free plans, such as Buffer's (up to 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel), can queue tweets. Check that X is included on the free tier you pick: Publer's and Metricool's free plans leave X out.

The usual reasons:

• You're in the iPhone or Android app. X documents scheduling only on the web (X Pro and X Ads), so open x.com in a browser instead.
• You're in X Pro without X Premium. X Pro comes with a Premium subscription.
• The tweet is longer than 280 characters. X says longer posts (a Premium feature) can't currently be scheduled or saved as drafts on the web.
• There's no schedule icon in the normal composer. That icon isn't documented and doesn't appear for every account; use X Pro or X Ads.

A standard post on X holds up to 280 characters and up to four media items, for example two photos, a GIF, and a video. X Premium subscribers can write longer posts, but X's help centre says you currently can't save a draft of a longer post or schedule one on the web, so plan long posts as live posts.

If a long post mentions other accounts, put the mentions in the first 280 characters: X says accounts mentioned after that point aren't notified.

For posts scheduled in X Ads, X's help centre spells out the details:

• The post isn't discoverable on X, or by X's data partners, until the time you scheduled.
• When it goes live, it carries the scheduled time as its timestamp, and its post ID doesn't change.
• It only shows in your campaign dashboard once it's live, so an empty dashboard before then is normal.
• To edit or delete it before then, open the Posts tab, switch the Posts: Promoted drop-down to Scheduled, and use the three-dot menu on the post.

Every post on X shows a source label on its detail page. X says posts labelled X for Advertisers were created in the X Ads Composer, and that the label says where the post came from, not whether it was paid; paid posts carry a Promoted badge. Posts sent through a third-party scheduler show that tool's name instead. None of this is a penalty, but it's worth knowing before you choose where to schedule from.

1. Once a week, write the posts that don't date: tips, answers to customer questions, offers, and behind-the-scenes moments.
2. Keep each one inside 280 characters and lead with the point, since the first line decides whether anyone reads on.
3. Schedule them across the week in X Pro or X Ads, leaving room for live posts and replies.
4. Check in daily to reply. A scheduler can post for you, but it can't hold a conversation.
5. At the end of the week, note which posts drew replies and write more like them.
