What is a linkedIn Company Page?

Also called LinkedIn Page, LinkedIn business page, LinkedIn company profile.

A LinkedIn Company Page is a public page on LinkedIn that represents an organisation rather than a person. It shows what the business does, lets members follow it, and lets admins post updates, share jobs and see analytics.

Why it matters

When someone checks out your business on LinkedIn, the Page is what they find: a buyer vetting a supplier, a candidate looking at a job, a partner checking you're real. It also lets you post as the business, so updates don't depend on one person's profile, and it gives you LinkedIn tools such as Page analytics and newsletters.

Example

A small accounting firm creates a Page with its logo, services and office location. It posts a short tax-deadline reminder every month, and its staff list the firm as their employer, so their profiles link back to the Page.

How to create a LinkedIn Company Page

You need a LinkedIn account, and you must confirm you have the right to act for the organisation. LinkedIn's help centre says Pages can be created on a computer or in the iPhone app, but not in the Android app. These are the steps on a computer.

  1. Click the For Business icon in the top right of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Scroll down and click Create a Company Page.
  3. Choose a Page type: Company, Showcase page or Educational institution.
  4. Enter your Page identity, company details and profile details, such as name, public URL, website, industry, size and logo.
  5. Tick the box to confirm you have the right to act for the organisation.
  6. Click Create page, then Start building your page to finish your profile.

Company Page vs personal profile

Posts from personal profiles often get more conversation, because people connect with people. A Company Page is the official, lasting home for the business and gives you Page analytics. Many small businesses do both: the owner shares insights on their profile and reshares the Page's updates.

Zolyp can publish LinkedIn posts as you or as your company Page, so both voices can sit on one calendar.

A Page also gives the business a home that doesn't change when people do. If the founder leaves or a marketing assistant moves on, the followers, posts and job listings stay with the Page, and new admins can carry on where the last ones stopped.

What makes a strong Page

  • A logo and cover image that match your other channels
  • A clear About section that says who you help and how, using the words customers search for
  • Your website, location and industry filled in
  • Regular posts: tips, case studies, team news and job openings
  • At least two admins, so access isn't lost when someone leaves
  • Staff linking their profiles to the Page as their workplace

Common mistakes

  • Creating the Page and never posting, which makes the business look inactive
  • Using a personal photo as the Page logo
  • Leaving the About section empty or full of jargon
  • Posting the same caption you used on Instagram, hashtags and all
  • Not asking staff to add the business as their workplace

Common questions

Is a LinkedIn Company Page free?

Can I create a LinkedIn Page from my phone?

On an iPhone, yes. LinkedIn's help centre says creating a Page isn't supported in the Android app, so use a computer.

What's a Showcase Page?

A Showcase Page is a sub-page linked to a Company Page, used for a brand, product line or initiative with its own audience.
