What is a linkedIn newsletter?

Also called LinkedIn newsletters, LinkedIn Page newsletter, LinkedIn article newsletter.

A LinkedIn newsletter is a series of long-form articles published on LinkedIn by a member or a Page, which people can subscribe to. Subscribers get a notification and an email each time a new edition is published.

Why it matters

Most LinkedIn posts are seen once in the feed and gone. A newsletter builds a list of subscribers who are told about every new edition, by notification and email, without you running an email platform. For a small business with expertise to share it is a steady way to stay in front of clients and prospects.

Example

A recruitment agency publishes a monthly newsletter from its Page called "Hiring in Manchester", with salary trends it sees in its own placements and tips for candidates. Clients subscribe, and each edition brings a few enquiries.

Who can start a newsletter

To create a newsletter as a Page, you must be a super admin or content admin of that Page, and the Page must meet LinkedIn's newsletter access criteria. LinkedIn's help centre lists three things it looks at:

If your Page doesn't have the option yet, keep posting original content and growing followers, and check again later. Meeting the criteria makes a Page eligible to be evaluated; LinkedIn makes the final decision.

  • Audience: Pages with more than 150 followers are eligible to be evaluated
  • Recent original content, such as posts with text, images or video, or articles
  • A good standing record with LinkedIn's Professional Community Policies

How to create a LinkedIn Page newsletter

These are the steps on a computer.

  1. Go to your Page's super or content admin view.
  2. Click Create in the left menu.
  3. Click Create a newsletter.
  4. Enter a title, choose how often you plan to publish and add a description.
  5. Upload an image.
  6. Click Done, then write and publish your first edition.

Launching it, and keeping readers

When the first edition is published, LinkedIn invites your Page's followers to subscribe by notification. That only happens once, so launch with a strong first edition rather than a test.

After that, subscribers are notified, and emailed, every time you publish.

  • Pick a narrow topic your customers care about and say it in the title.
  • Publish on the schedule you promise; monthly is fine if you keep to it.
  • Lead each edition with the useful part, not news about your company.
  • Share each edition as a normal post too, with a line on why it's worth reading.
  • End with one simple next step, such as replying or booking a call.

Newsletter vs post vs email list

A normal LinkedIn post is short and lives in the feed. A newsletter edition is a full article, and subscribers are told about it. An email list on your own website is yours to keep and contact, while LinkedIn newsletter subscribers stay on LinkedIn.

Many small businesses use them together: short posts to stay visible every week, a monthly newsletter for deeper ideas, and an invitation in each edition to join their own email list or get in touch.
