What is for You page?

Also called FYP, For You feed, TikTok For You page.

The For You page, or FYP, is TikTok's main feed of recommended videos. It is different for every person and is built from their activity, such as which videos they watch, like, share or skip.

Why it matters

Most TikTok viewing happens on the For You feed, and videos can appear there whether or not the viewer follows the account. That means a small business with few followers can still reach a large audience with one video that holds attention. Knowing what shapes the feed helps you make videos that get watched rather than skipped.

Example

A local bike repair shop posts a 30-second video showing how to fix a slipping chain. People interested in cycling watch it to the end and share it, so TikTok shows it to more cyclists on their For You feeds, most of whom have never followed the shop.

What decides what appears on the For You page

TikTok's help centre and newsroom describe two main groups of signals:

  • How people interact: videos they like, share or comment on, videos they watch in full or skip, and accounts they follow back
  • Information about the video: the sounds, hashtags and captions it uses, how many views it has, and the country it was posted in

What doesn't matter as much as people think

TikTok has said that neither follower count nor whether an account has had high-performing videos before is a direct factor in its recommendation system. A new account can reach the For You feed with its first good video.

There is no hashtag that guarantees a place on the feed. Tags such as #fyp only describe the video; the video still has to keep people watching.

What matters most is how the people who see a video respond. TikTok describes its ranking as predicting how likely each viewer is to like, share, comment on or skip a video, so a video that holds attention with its first viewers has a better chance of being shown more widely.

How to make videos that travel on the FYP

  • Hook people in the first second or two, before they swipe away.
  • Keep it as short as the idea allows; people watching to the end is a strong signal.
  • Use a sound and a few hashtags that genuinely match the video's topic.
  • Add on-screen text so the video works with the sound off.
  • Post consistently on one theme so TikTok learns who your videos are for.
  • Reply to comments, and consider replying with a video.
  • Avoid spending the first seconds on a logo or an introduction.
  • Avoid reposting videos with another app's watermark.
  • Judge an account on a few weeks of posting, not one video.

Shaping your own For You feed

As a viewer you can press and hold a video and choose Not interested to see less of that kind of content, filter keywords and hashtags, and adjust the topics you see. TikTok also lets you see why a particular video was recommended to you.

Common questions

What does FYP mean?

FYP stands for For You page, TikTok's personalised feed of recommended videos.

Does using #fyp get my video on the For You page?

No. Hashtags describe your video, but TikTok recommends videos mainly on how people interact with them. Use hashtags that match the topic instead.

Do I need lots of followers to get on the For You page?

No. TikTok has said follower count is not a direct factor in its recommendations, so a new account can reach the feed.
