What this means for a small business
- WhatsApp is the default way many customers contact a business, especially outside the US. Add a WhatsApp link to your website, Google profile and social bios.
- Use Status and Channels to share offers and updates with people who already know you, but keep personal chats for real conversations.
- In the US, WhatsApp is used by fewer adults than Facebook or Instagram, so check whether your own customers use it before making it your main channel.
- Reply quickly. People expect messaging to feel like texting a friend, and a slow answer can lose the sale.
Knowing where your customers are is half of it; the other half is posting there every week. Make a post with the free generator or let Zolyp plan and write the week for you.
Common questions
How many people use WhatsApp in 2026?
Meta says more than 3 billion people in over 180 countries use WhatsApp. It does not publish a separate quarterly WhatsApp user figure; its earnings report daily active people across all its apps, which was 3.60 billion in June 2026.
Which countries use WhatsApp the most?
Use is very high in many countries. CST found WhatsApp is the most used social media app in Saudi Arabia (92.7 percent), and Ofcom found 90 percent of UK adults use it. In the US it is lower: 32 percent of adults in Pew's 2025 survey.
Does WhatsApp have ads?
Yes, in the Updates tab only. In June 2025 Meta announced ads in Status, promoted channels and channel subscriptions, and said they appear only in the Updates tab, which 1.5 billion people use each day, not in personal chats.
Is WhatsApp more popular than Facebook?
It depends on the measure. In GWI's survey data reported by DataReportal, slightly more internet users said they used Facebook (56.3 percent) than WhatsApp (54.4 percent) in the past month, but Similarweb's app data puts WhatsApp's active user base ahead of Facebook's and second only to YouTube.
