How many people use TikTok
ByteDance is a private company and TikTok does not publish an audited global monthly active user figure, so the numbers below come from TikTok's own statements, its ad tools and survey data.
More than 1 billion
TikTok describes itself as a global discovery platform for more than a billion people (October 2026).
This is TikTok's own wording, not an audited monthly active user count.

2.21 billion
Potential ad reach among users aged 18 and above reported in TikTok's ad tools in April 2026, not including India.
Ad reach is the audience a platform's own ad tools say advertisers can reach. It is not the same as monthly active users: it can include duplicate and business accounts, and it can rise or fall when the platform changes how it counts. TikTok remains blocked in India and its tools report no data there. DataReportal found TikTok's reported adult reach was larger than the whole adult population in 35 countries.

What this means for a small business
- TikTok's reach is large, but its own ad reach figures run ahead of independent usage data. Plan around what your own posts and ads actually deliver, not the headline audience.
- TikTok is mainly an entertainment app. Posts that teach, amuse or show something new tend to suit it better than straight adverts.
- Many US users now get news and recommendations there, so a local business that shows its products, prices and location clearly can be found by new customers.
- Short, regular videos matter more than polish. A phone, good light and a clear first second go a long way.
Knowing where your customers are is half of it; the other half is posting there every week. Make a post with the free generator or let Zolyp plan and write the week for you.

Sources measure different things. TikTok's ad tools count the audience advertisers can reach, surveys such as GWI and Pew ask people what they use, and Similarweb tracks app opens. Each gives a different answer, so compare like with like.
