Users reported by X's owner
X became part of xAI in 2025, and xAI became part of SpaceX in February 2026. SpaceX's SEC filings now carry the only official user numbers. They are company estimates and combine X with the Grok AI assistant.
About 550 million

SpaceX owns X through xAI. Its MAU count combines X and Grok, removes people who use both where sign-ins allow, and only counts registered accounts. The company calls it an estimate. X on its own has not published a separate user count in a filing.

450 million
X's potential ad reach reported in its own ad tools in April 2026.

DataReportal changed the X tool it collects from, but says its tests show no meaningful difference.

What this means for a small business
- X's own numbers now come from SEC filings, but they combine X with an AI assistant. Treat the headline audience as an upper bound.
- X is strongest for news, live events and real-time talk. Timely, short posts suit it better than polished campaigns.
- Its US audience leans male, so check that it matches your customers before putting much time into it.
- If X brings you little, it is reasonable to post there lightly and spend more effort where your customers are.
Knowing where your customers are is half of it; the other half is posting there every week. Make a post with the free generator or let Zolyp plan and write the week for you.
