What is a pinned post?
Also called pinned tweet, pin to profile, featured post.
A pinned post is a post you fix to the top of your profile, Page or group so it stays the first thing visitors see, above newer posts, until you unpin it.
Why it matters
When someone checks out your business, they look at your profile for a few seconds. A pinned post decides what they see first: your best offer, how to book, or why you're worth following. Without one, they see whatever you posted last, which might be a holiday notice from months ago.
Example
A dog groomer pins three posts on Instagram: a price list, a before-and-after of its most popular cut, and a short reel showing how to book.
How to pin a post on each platform
Pinning takes a few taps and you can change it whenever your priorities change.
- Instagram: you can pin up to 3 posts to the top of your profile, from the post's menu.
- X: find the post on your profile, open the menu at the top of it, select Pin to your profile, then confirm. It stays above your newer posts.
- Facebook Pages: admins and editors can pin a post, and it stays at the top of the Page until someone changes or removes it.
- Facebook groups: admins and moderators can pin posts and group rules to the top of the group.
- TikTok: you can pin a small number of your own videos to the top of your profile from the video's options.
What to pin
Pin the posts that answer a new visitor's first question: what do you do, and how do I buy, book or visit?
- A welcome or introduction post that says what you offer and who for.
- Your price list, menu or service list.
- A current offer, launch or event, with the date in the post.
- Your best-performing post, if it shows what you do well.
- Answers to your most common questions: delivery areas, opening hours, how to order.
Common mistakes
The biggest risk with a pin is that it quietly goes out of date.
- Leaving an expired offer or a past event pinned for months.
- Pinning something that only makes sense to existing followers.
- Pinning three posts that all say the same thing.
- Never checking how your profile looks to a stranger. Open it logged out, or from a friend's phone, every few months.
Pinned posts on Pages and groups
On a Facebook Page, a pinned welcome post is a simple way to greet new visitors. In a Facebook group you run, pin the group rules or a "start here" post so new members know what the group is for and how to behave. On X, a pinned post is a good home for a short thread that explains what you do, since it stays visible while your newer posts move down the timeline. Whatever you pin, write it for a stranger: assume they've never heard of you and have a few seconds to decide whether to stay.
Common questions
How many posts can I pin on Instagram?
Up to 3, shown at the top of your profile grid.
Does pinning a post get it more reach?
Pinning doesn't push the post back into people's feeds. Its value is that everyone who visits your profile sees it first, which is often the moment they decide whether to follow, message or buy.
How often should I change my pinned post?
Whenever it stops being true or useful. A quick check at the start of each month, or whenever an offer ends, keeps it current.
