How to post a LinkedIn document carousel (PDF post)

The swipeable LinkedIn carousel most people mean is a document post. Start a post, click More, choose Add a document, upload one PDF, PowerPoint or Word file, give it a title, add your text and click Post. LinkedIn accepts files up to 100 MB and 300 pages, and anyone who can see the post can download it as a PDF.

What is a LinkedIn document carousel?

When you add several photos to a LinkedIn post, LinkedIn arranges them as a collage: two side by side, or one large image with the rest stacked beside or below it, depending on the first image's shape. There's no page-by-page swipe.

A document post works differently. Each page of the file becomes a slide that people move through in the feed, which is why marketers call it a carousel. It suits step-by-step guides, checklists, short case studies and anything with an order.

What are LinkedIn's document limits?

These limits come from LinkedIn's help centre:

  • LinkedIn recommends converting to PDF before uploading for the best quality.
  • A PDF with pages of different sizes has to be fitted to one page size, and a PDF with layers has to be flattened first.
  • Links inside a PDF should use secure (https) addresses.
  • Give the document a title that says what it covers. LinkedIn requires one, and it's what people see before they open it.

How do you design a PDF carousel people finish?

LinkedIn doesn't publish a required page size for documents, so the main rule is consistency: pick one shape and use it on every page. Most people read the feed on a phone, so design for a small screen.

  1. Make page one the hook: a clear promise in large type, such as 5 checks before you sign a lease.
  2. Put one idea on each page. If a page needs a paragraph, split it.
  3. Use big, high-contrast text you can read without zooming.
  4. Keep the same layout, colours and fonts throughout, so it looks like one piece.
  5. Number the pages or show progress, so people know how much is left.
  6. End with one action: follow the Page, visit a link in the post text, or comment with a question.
  7. Export as a flattened PDF with every page the same size.

Why did my LinkedIn document upload fail?

LinkedIn sends a notification when an upload fails. Check these first:

  • The file is a PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC or DOCX.
  • It is 100 MB or smaller and 300 pages or fewer.
  • You gave it a title.
  • If you picked it from a work cloud account, your company admin may have to approve the connection.

Where Zolyp fits

Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. When a Zolyp carousel goes to LinkedIn, you choose how it appears: Swipe carousel sends your images as one PDF, a photo per page, so people can swipe through it; Grid sends them as a normal photo post. Other platforms get the photos either way. You can also attach your own PDF, PowerPoint or Word file as a LinkedIn document post. LinkedIn is one of the 9 platforms it publishes to (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads), and you approve the week before anything goes live. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.

Common questions

What is the maximum size for a LinkedIn PDF?

100 MB and 300 pages. LinkedIn accepts PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC and DOCX files, one per post.

Can I change the PDF after I post it?

No. You can edit the title and description, but to replace the file you have to delete the post and create a new one.

Can people download my LinkedIn document?

Yes. LinkedIn lets anyone who can view the post download the document as a PDF, for accessibility. Don't upload anything you wouldn't want saved.

Why do my photos show as a grid instead of a carousel?

LinkedIn shows several photos as a collage, not a swipe. To get a swipeable carousel, combine the images into one PDF and post it as a document.

Can a LinkedIn company Page post a document?

Yes. A super or content admin opens the Page admin view, goes to Page posts, clicks Start a post and uses the pencil icon on desktop, or taps Post and then Add a document in the app.
