Should you delete, deactivate or unpublish?
Deleting is permanent once the 14 days pass. If you only want the Page out of sight, Meta offers two softer options, and neither deletes anything:
- To deactivate instead: log in to Facebook and click your profile photo in the top right.
- Click See all profiles and select the Page.
- Click the Page's profile picture in the top right, then Settings & privacy and Settings.
- Click Access and control in the left menu.
- Select Deactivate Page, click Continue and follow the steps. You may need to enter your password.
| Option | What Meta says happens |
|---|---|
| Delete | Deactivated at once, then permanently deleted after 14 days |
| Deactivate | Hidden from the public, including followers; you can't edit it until you reactivate |
| Unpublish | Not visible publicly, but you can still edit it; edits show once you publish again |

How do you download a copy of the Page first?
Deleted posts and photos don't come back, so save what you want first. You need Facebook access with full control, and Meta says the download link expires after four days.
- Switch into the Page (profile photo, See all profiles, select the Page).
- Click the Page's profile photo, then Settings and privacy and Settings.
- Click Download your information in the left column.
- Choose the format, the media quality and a date range (leave it blank for everything).
- Tick the categories of data you want, then click Request a download.
- When Meta notifies you, click Download Page and enter your password.

How do you cancel deletion or reactivate a Page?
A Page waiting to be deleted is deactivated, so cancelling means reactivating it within the 14 days. Meta says you can only do this from your personal profile, not from the Page's business settings:
- Log in to your main Facebook profile and click your profile photo in the top right.
- Select Settings and privacy, then Settings.
- Below Your activity, click Reactivate a Page.
- Find the Page and click Reactivate.

What if you can't see Delete Page?
Meta's help centre covers these cases:
- No Delete option: check that you have Facebook access with full control. Task access isn't enough.
- Store location Pages: deactivating a parent Page also deactivates its child Pages, and child Pages can't be reactivated until the parent is.
- Your personal account was deactivated: Pages only you controlled were deactivated with it. Log back in to reactivate your account, then reactivate the Pages.
- You deleted your personal account: you can cancel that within 30 days by logging in and clicking Cancel deletion.
- Nobody left with full control: Meta deactivates the Page and schedules it for deletion. If the last full-control person no longer has an active account, you can submit a Page admin dispute.

Before you delete a quiet Page
Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Plenty of Pages get deleted because nobody has time to post, not because the business no longer needs one. Deactivating keeps your followers while you decide, and Zolyp can plan, write and publish a regular week of posts for you to approve if time was the problem.
Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.
Common questions
How long does it take to delete a Facebook Page?
Meta deactivates the Page as soon as you request deletion, but it isn't permanently deleted until 14 days have passed.
Can I get a deleted Facebook Page back?
Within the 14 days, yes: reactivate it from your personal profile under Settings, Your activity, Reactivate a Page. Meta's help centre only describes recovery within that window.
Who can delete a Facebook Page?
Only someone with Facebook access and full control of the Page. People with task access can't.
Does deactivating my personal account affect my Page?
Yes. Meta says Pages that only you controlled are deactivated with your account. Reactivate your account first, then the Pages.
Should I delete a duplicate Page or merge it?
If both Pages represent the same business, merging can combine their followers onto one Page instead. Deleting loses the duplicate's followers.
