What is a boosted post?

Meta describes a boosted post as an ad you create from a post already on your Facebook Page, rather than a new ad built from scratch. It can help you get more messages, video views, leads or calls, and reach people who are likely to be interested in your business but don't follow your Page yet.

Meta's own advice on what to boost is practical: a post that already earned plenty of comments, likes and shares has shown it resonates, so it's a good candidate. If it keeps doing well, you can boost it again. Before you start, you need Facebook access to the Page or task access to Ads.

How do you boost a post from your Page?

These are Meta's steps on a computer. Meta notes that boosting in the Facebook app on an iPhone or iPad may add an Apple service fee of 30% of your ad payment, kept by Apple, so boosting on a computer avoids that fee.

  1. Log in to Facebook and click your profile picture in the top right.
  2. Switch into the Page you want to boost a post from.
  3. Click Ad Centre on the left, then click Advertise.
  4. Select Boost Facebook content, then click Boost post on the post you want.
  5. Fill in the details. Meta uses the post's images and text automatically; you choose the Goal, Audience, Duration, Daily budget, Placements and Payment method. Turn on Special Ad Category if the ad is about financial products, employment, housing, or social issues, elections or politics.
  6. Click Publish.

What can you change after a boost is live?

Meta lets you edit the audience, duration, budget and payment method of an active boost: go to your Page, click Ad Centre, find the boost, click More options (you may need See all first), then Edit ad, make your changes and click Save changes. You can't edit text, images or video once the ad is reviewed and published; to change those, create a new post and boost it. Meta also says you can't edit an ad from the Facebook app on an iPhone, so use a browser.

To pause, click the three dots on the boost in Ad Centre, choose Pause ad and Confirm. Choose Resume ad to restart it. If you cancel a boost made in Business Suite, Meta says the original post isn't deleted.

Where Zolyp fits with boosting

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. A boost works best on a post that has already proved itself, so the real job is posting often enough to find those posts. Zolyp doesn't run or manage ads; it keeps your Facebook Page posting so you have a steady supply of organic posts to judge and boost yourself.

Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

Is boosting a post the same as running a Facebook ad?

A boost is an ad, but Meta describes it as one made from an existing Page post. A new ad in Ads Manager uses creative that hasn't been published on your Page before.

Can I change the text of a boosted post?

No. Meta says text, images and video can't be edited once the ad is reviewed and published. You can still change the audience, budget, duration and payment method.

Why does boosting cost more on my iPhone?

Meta says an Apple service fee of 30% of your ad payment may apply when you boost in the Facebook app on an iPhone or iPad. Boosting on a computer doesn't go through the iOS app.

Can I schedule a boost to start later?

Yes, in Meta Business Suite on a computer. Set a start date and time under Schedule and budget, then choose Schedule from the arrow next to Publish.

Why is my post showing Boost unavailable?

Hover over Boost unavailable to see Meta's reason. Common ones are shared posts, drafts, albums, reels with copyrighted music or effects, and links containing a Facebook Click ID.
