What are the two ways to pay?
Your first payment method sets which one you're on:
- Meta may also add location fees to cover digital service taxes in some places.
- Your final bill can be higher than one ad's budget because it covers every ad run in the billing period.
| Setting | How you're charged | Typical methods |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic billing | When costs reach your payment threshold, and on your monthly bill date for the rest | PayPal, most credit and debit cards |
| Available funds | Meta deducts from a prepaid balance up to once a day | Cards or local payment methods |

What is a payment threshold?
It's the amount you can spend before Meta charges you. New accounts start with a small threshold; Meta's example is USD 25. Each time costs reach it, you're charged that amount, and after successful payments the threshold may rise. That's why you can be charged several times in a month, or after your ads have stopped.

How do you set a maximum payment threshold?
Useful if your card limits single transactions. Meta's steps:
- In Meta Ads Manager, go to Billing and payments.
- Select Payment settings.
- Under Current balance, click the pencil icon under When you'll pay.
- Enter the new threshold and select Save.
- A lower value takes effect immediately. A higher one is reached gradually as more payments succeed.
- The threshold isn't your daily spending limit. If ads pause, you may have hit that limit instead.

How do you add a payment method or pay early?
You need a payment method before you can publish an ad. With a business portfolio you need full control of the ad account; otherwise admin permissions.
- Go to Billing and payments and select the ad account if you have more than one.
- Click Payment settings (one account) or Payment methods (several), then Add payment method.
- Choose the method, click Next and follow the instructions.
- To pay before your threshold or bill date, click Pay now next to Amount due in Payment settings, enter an amount and confirm.

What happens if a payment fails?
Meta pauses your ads and disables the ad account until you pay the amount due. To fix it, go to Billing and payments, select the account, click Payment methods and Pay now, or add funds if you use a prepaid balance. Once paid, Meta resumes active and scheduled ads.
- Check the method is supported in your country, enabled for online payments, in date and has a security code.
- Make sure you can receive one-time passcodes on the phone linked to the card.
- Meta says one payment method can typically be added to up to ten ad accounts.
- Add a backup payment method so one failed card doesn't pause everything.

Keeping ad spend and posting separate
Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't run or pay for ads, so it never touches your ad account or billing. It keeps your Page posting organically while your ads budget does its own job.
Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.
Common questions
Why was I charged twice for Facebook ads this month?
With automatic billing, Meta charges each time your costs reach the payment threshold and again on your bill date, so several charges in a month are normal.
Why was I charged after my ads stopped?
Costs that didn't reach your threshold are billed on your monthly bill date, which can fall after the ads have ended.
Can I lower my Facebook payment threshold?
Yes. Set a maximum payment threshold in Payment settings. Lower values take effect immediately.
Will my ads restart after I fix a failed payment?
Meta says it resumes active or scheduled ads once you've paid the amount due or added enough funds.
