What should Threads do for your business?
Threads is Meta's text-first app for public conversation. Meta announced in June 2026 that it had reached 500 million monthly active users, and said communities were driving that growth. It also reported in July 2025 that more than a third of daily Threads users with connections follow mostly different accounts on Threads than on Instagram, so Threads isn't just your Instagram audience again.
Pick one goal for the next 90 days and let it decide what you post. Threads rewards talking, so goals built around conversation tend to fit better than pure selling.
| Main goal | What most posts should do | What to check monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Become known in your field | Share opinions and answers in one clear topic | Views, follower growth and where followers come from |
| Build a local following | Talk about your area, events and neighbours | Top follower cities in Insights |
| Learn what customers want | Ask questions and run polls | Replies, and the ideas they give you |
| Send people to your site | Share useful posts with a link, not bare links | Link visits shown in Insights |
| Support your Instagram presence | Continue conversations your Instagram posts start | New followers who don't follow you on Instagram |

Which topics and communities will you show up in?
Threads helps people find posts by topic. You can tag one topic per post; a tag can be up to 50 characters, can include spaces, and doesn't need a # symbol. Tapping a topic shows people other posts about it in real time.
Communities go a step further. Meta launched them in October 2025 as public spaces around topics, said in December 2025 that there were over 200 to explore, and in June 2026 moved them out of beta with a Communities Hub in the main menu. Membership is public: communities you join are pinned in your feeds menu and tagged on your profile, so choose ones that say the right thing about your business.
- Choose one main topic your business can speak about every week, such as "home baking" or "small business tax".
- Choose two secondary topics you'll tag now and then.
- Search Threads for communities on those topics and join one or two that match your customers.
- Read them for a week before posting, so you learn what people there value.
- Tag your main topic on most posts, so new readers start connecting you with it.

Which post types will you run?
A Threads post can include text, links, photos, videos or a mix of them. The main text is limited to 500 characters, and since September 2025 you can attach up to 10,000 characters of text for longer pieces. Polls can have up to four options of 25 characters each, and people have up to 24 hours to vote.
Three or four repeatable post types are enough. Make most of them invitations to reply:
- An opinion series: one honest view on your field each week, with your reason.
- A question series: something you genuinely want customers to answer.
- A behind-the-scenes series: a photo and a line about today's work.
- A teaching series: one tip or answer, with an attached longer guide when it helps.
- Occasional updates and offers, written so people can still reply to them.

How often will you post, and how will you reply?
Meta's transparency centre explains that the Threads feed blends posts from accounts people follow with recommended posts, then ranks them by predicting what each viewer will find valuable. The predictions it lists include how likely someone is to like a post, reply to it, tap it, tap through to the author's profile, or scroll past it. Several signals look at replies and replies to replies over recent hours.
So plan replies as part of the strategy, not as an extra. Threads also has tools that help a small team keep up. On the web you can schedule posts days in advance and keep up to 100 drafts. Reply approvals let you choose which replies appear on a post, and filters show replies from people you follow or that include mentions.
- Batch-write the week's posts in one sitting, using your post types.
- Schedule them, leaving room for posts about things that happen during the week.
- Set two short reply slots a day, one of them soon after your post goes out.
- Reply to every genuine comment, and ask a follow-up question where it fits.
- Spend part of each slot replying to others in your topic and communities.

What rules should a business know on Threads?
Meta's help centre says Threads doesn't offer the branded content tool that Instagram has. If you post paid partnership content, say so in the post with text or hashtags that make clear it's a paid promotion, in line with Meta's branded content policy.
You can limit who replies to and quotes a post (profiles you follow, or mentioned only). Note the trade-offs: posts that limit replies or include a poll aren't shared to the fediverse if you've turned that on. Our Threads ads guide covers paid reach when you're ready for it.

How do you measure a Threads strategy?
Don't judge a Threads strategy by views alone. Views tell you the feed showed your post to people; replies, follows and link visits tell you whether it did anything for the business. A post with fewer views but ten thoughtful replies from local customers is usually worth more than a widely seen post nobody answered.
Threads Insights shows views, replies, reposts and quotes on your posts, how your follower count has changed, and follower details such as age range, gender, top cities and countries. Meta has since added a chart for comparing performance over 7 to 90 days, a view of where your posts were discovered (including on other Meta apps), counts of visits to links in your bio and posts, and a weekly recap.
Once a month, check against your goal:
- Which post type drew the most replies per post?
- Which topic tag brought the most views from people who don't follow you?
- How many people visited your links, and did any of them buy or book?
- Did your followers' top cities match where your customers are?
- What one change will you test next month?

Worked example (hypothetical): a yoga studio's one-page Threads plan
This plan is invented to show the format. A neighbourhood yoga studio wants more people booking a first class.
| Decision | The studio's answer |
|---|---|
| Goal for 90 days | More first-class bookings from people nearby |
| Main topic | Yoga for beginners; secondary topics: stretching, the town name |
| Communities | One wellness community and one local community, if one exists |
| Post type 1: question | "What stopped you trying yoga?" and similar |
| Post type 2: opinion | A weekly honest take, such as why flexibility isn't the point |
| Post type 3: behind the scenes | The studio before class, with a line about the session |
| Rhythm | Four posts a week, scheduled Sunday; replies at 8am and 6pm |
| Monthly check | Link visits to the booking page and first-class bookings that mention Threads |
Where Zolyp fits (disclosed: it's our product)
On Threads the replies are the strategy, and they should be yours. The scheduled posts that start those conversations can be drafted for you. Zolyp, which we make, plans the week, writes and designs posts against your Brand Brain and publishes them to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads once you approve them. Lite is $9 a month per brand for publishing posts you already have; plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.
Common questions
Is Threads good for small business marketing?
It suits businesses that can talk: share opinions, answer questions and join conversations in their field. Meta reported 500 million monthly active users in June 2026, and many Threads users follow different accounts there than on Instagram.
How many topics can I tag on a Threads post?
One. Meta's help centre says you can include up to one topic per post, and a topic can be up to 50 characters long.
Can a business schedule posts on Threads?
Yes. Meta added scheduling on the web in 2024, along with drafts; you can save up to 100 drafts.
Do I need to label paid partnerships on Threads?
Yes. Threads doesn't have Instagram's branded content tool, so Meta asks you to make clear in the post text or hashtags that it's a paid partnership.
Should a business use Threads instead of Instagram?
Usually alongside it, not instead. Instagram suits visual posts; Threads suits conversation. Meta reported that many Threads users follow mostly different accounts there, so each can reach people the other doesn't.
What should I measure on Threads?
Start with replies per post, views from non-followers, link visits and follower locations in Threads Insights, then compare them with bookings or sales you can trace to Threads.
