What does the blue check on TikTok mean?

The verified badge is the blue check mark next to an account name in search results and on the profile. TikTok says it means the account has been reviewed, based on the information given during verification, and represents the person, business or brand it claims to.

A badge doesn't mean TikTok endorses the account, and verified accounts must follow the Community Guidelines like everyone else.

How do you apply for TikTok verification?

Applications happen in the mobile app. TikTok's old web request page now just points you to the app.

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button (three lines) at the top, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Verification.
  5. Tap Start, then follow the steps to submit your request, including your written media coverage.
  • TikTok notifies you of the result through TikTok notifications within 30 days.
  • Accounts registered as Government, Politician or Political Party Accounts can only apply for institutional verification.

What should a small business do before applying?

Most rejections are avoidable if you line up TikTok's requirements first:

  • Switch to a Verified Business Account if you haven't. Business verification requires one, or an Organization Account.
  • Fill in the profile: a clear name, profile photo and bio, and at least one public post.
  • Collect independent news coverage of your business from more than one outlet. Paid features, sponsored articles and social posts won't count.
  • Keep the account active and within TikTok's Community Guidelines while you wait.

Why was your TikTok verification rejected or removed?

Watch for scams. TikTok doesn't charge for verification, says anyone selling it isn't affiliated with TikTok, and doesn't email or message people asking them to apply, except Government, Politician or Political Party Accounts. To give up a badge yourself, open the Verification page and tap the TikTok Support button at the top.

  • Rejected: check the rejection reason in the notification, fix it, and resubmit after the waiting period TikTok shows.
  • Removed after you changed your username directly: TikTok can remove a badge if the username was changed without submitting a username update request.
  • Removed after an ownership change: a transferred account is no longer the authentic owner.
  • Removed after a business change: the account lost its Verified Business Account or Organization Account status.
  • Removed for rule breaking: repeated or severe violations of the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
