Why does TikTok remove videos?
TikTok uses automated and human review to find content that breaks its Community Guidelines. A post can be reviewed when you upload it, when it gains popularity, or when someone reports it.
If a violation is found, TikTok either removes the post or makes it ineligible for the For You feed, tells you why, and gives you the chance to appeal.

How do you appeal a removed TikTok video?
From your inbox:
- In the TikTok app, tap Inbox at the bottom.
- Tap the notification that your content was removed.
- Tap Submit an appeal, then follow the instructions.
- Or from the post: open the removed post, tap Community Guidelines violation: See details, then Submit an appeal.
- Don't delete the post while the appeal is under review. If you do, TikTok may not be able to clear the violation even if you win, and the post won't come back.
- If the appeal is approved, the content and your account status are reinstated.

How do you appeal a video that's not eligible for the For You feed?
A post that's ineligible for the For You feed stays up but isn't recommended there. You need analytics turned on to see TikTok's decision. If it's off: Profile, Menu, TikTok Studio, Get started within Analytics, then Turn on.
- Go to the post that is ineligible for the For You feed.
- Tap More insights at the bottom, or tap More options (...) on the side of the post, then Analytics.
- Tap the notification for the ineligible post and review the reason.
- Tap Appeal at the top.

How do you check your TikTok account status?
Your account status reflects your violation history across TikTok over the last 90 days. It can be Healthy, Fair, Severe or Banned. Account check also shows whether you're restricted from logging in, posting, commenting, editing your profile or sending messages.
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button (three lines) at the top, then TikTok Studio.
- Under More tools, tap Account check.
- Another route: Settings and privacy, Support, Safety Center, then Account check.
- A tick means no issue. A warning sign marks a feature or post with a problem.
- To read past violation notices: Inbox, System notifications, then Account updates.

What happens if violations add up?
TikTok can ban an account permanently for a single severe violation, for repeated violations, or for creating a new account to get around a ban or restriction.
- The impact depends on how severe the policy area is and where the violation happened, such as comments or direct messages.
- Repeated violations can lower your account status, restrict features such as commenting, or lead to a permanent ban.
- For some first violations, TikTok offers optional in-app policy training. Completing it may lift eligible restrictions. This doesn't apply to severe violations.
- Violations expire after 90 days and stop counting.
- Deleting a violating post doesn't remove the violation.

What if your TikTok account is banned?
If appeals keep failing, read the reason in each notice. The policy named there tells you what to change in future posts.
- You'll see a banner notification when you next open the app or try to log in.
- To appeal: open the ban notification, tap Appeal and follow the instructions.
- You can still log in to a banned account to appeal and to download your data. TikTok deletes personal data after a period of time, after which the account is gone.
- Don't open a new account to get around the ban. TikTok may restrict or ban other accounts you use to avoid a restriction or ban while it's active.

Where Zolyp fits (from the team behind this guide)
Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is an AI social media manager: it plans, writes, designs and schedules posts for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads, and you approve the week before anything goes out. Its Brand Brain stores the topics you've banned, so drafts avoid them. It doesn't check posts against TikTok's Community Guidelines, so a quick read before you approve still matters.
Common questions
How long do TikTok violations last?
TikTok says violations expire after 90 days and are no longer taken into account.
Does deleting a TikTok video remove the violation?
No. Deleting violating content doesn't remove the violation, and TikTok may still lower your account status.
How do I check if my TikTok account is restricted?
Open TikTok Studio from the Menu on your profile and tap Account check under More tools. A warning sign shows any restriction.
Can I appeal a TikTok ban?
Yes. Open the ban notification, tap Appeal and follow the instructions. You can log in to a banned account to do this.
Will my video come back if my appeal is approved?
Yes, unless you deleted it. TikTok reinstates the content and your account status.
