What kinds of LinkedIn Events can you create?
Choose carefully, because the type and format are fixed once the event is posted:
- Create the event within a year of its date. LinkedIn says events created further ahead may not send attendee notifications.
| Type | Format | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| In person | None | Held at a venue and promoted on LinkedIn, not streamed |
| Online | LinkedIn Live | Streamed on LinkedIn with a third-party tool. Needs LinkedIn Live access |
| Online | External event link | Held elsewhere, such as a video call, and promoted on LinkedIn |

How do you create a LinkedIn Event?
On desktop:
- Click the Home icon at the top of the page, then Events in the left pane.
- Click Create an Event.
- Upload a cover image and add alt text.
- Choose the organiser: your profile or a Page you admin.
- Choose the event type and, for online events, the format.
- Add the event name, time zone, start date and time, and an end time if you want one.
- For a Page event, tick Use a LinkedIn registration form if you want registrations, and add your privacy policy link.
- Add a description and any speakers, then click Next.
- Write a short post to promote the event, choose who it's shared with and click Post. The event isn't created until you post.
- Cover image: 16:9, at least 480 pixels wide, for example 480 x 270 or 1280 x 720. Upload from your device; cloud files aren't supported.
- Speakers only appear in the list if they're your connections.
- In the app: My Network, Manage my network, Events, then Create.
- To try it out from a Page, use LinkedIn's built-in test event option rather than a test Page.

How do you invite people to your event?
Organisers and attendees can invite their 1st-degree connections:
- Go to your Events homepage and select the event.
- Click Share, then Invite.
- Search by name or filter by location, company, school or industry.
- Tick the people you want to invite and click the Invite button.
- Each person can send up to 1,000 invitations a week. The limit covers all your events together.
- Page followers can't be invited unless they're connected to one of the Page's admins. Share the event in a Page post to reach them.
- Attendees get reminders seven days, three days and 15 minutes before the start.

How do Page event registration forms work?
Events organised by a Page can use a registration form. It's pre-filled from the member's profile with first name, last name, email, job title, company and country or region.
- Super and content admins can add, remove or replace the form at any time, even after the event.
- Add it when you create the event. People who registered before you added it aren't asked to fill it in.
- Find registrations in the Registration section of the event's Analytics tab. New registrants can take four to five days to appear in the download.
- Registrant data can be downloaded for up to a year after each person registers.
- Only send marketing to people who ticked the consent checkbox.

How do you edit, cancel or delete an event?
To edit: go to your Events homepage, select the event, click Manage event, then Edit event, make your changes and click Save. What you can change depends on timing:
- To cancel or delete, click Manage event and choose Cancel event or Delete event. Both are permanent.
- You must cancel before you can delete. Cancelling tells attendees; deleting doesn't, and removes the event and its post.
- A LinkedIn Live event can only be cancelled before it starts.
| Detail | Before it starts | While it's on | After it ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Organiser, type, format | No | No | No |
| Time zone, start and end | Yes | No | No |
| Location, venue, external link | Yes | Yes | No |
| Name, description, speakers, cover image | Yes | Yes | Yes |

Why can't I create or manage my LinkedIn Event?

| No LinkedIn Live option | You don't meet LinkedIn Live access criteria | Use External event link instead |
| Can't switch online to in person | Type and format are fixed | Cancel, then create a new event |
| Delete option missing | Not cancelled yet, or the event is ongoing | Cancel first, or wait until it ends; refresh the page |
| Can't invite Page followers | Only 1st-degree connections can be invited | Share the event in a Page post |

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't create LinkedIn Events. It can write and schedule the posts around one, such as a save-the-date, a reminder and a thank-you afterwards, on your company Page alongside your other LinkedIn posts. LinkedIn is one of the 9 platforms it publishes to (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads), and you approve the week before anything goes live. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.
