How to change your Pinterest username or name

Your username appears under your profile name, next to your profile picture, and makes your profile's web address. Pinterest's own account, for example, is at www.pinterest.com/Pinterest. On a computer:

1. Log in to your Pinterest account.
2. Click the more-options icon at the bottom left of the screen.
3. Click Settings, then Edit profile.
4. Scroll down to Username and enter your new username.
5. Click Save.

• Business account in the app: tap your profile photo at the bottom right, tap Edit profile under your photo, edit Username and tap Done
• Personal account in the app: tap your profile picture at the bottom right, then your photo at the top left, tap View profile, then Edit profile, edit Username and tap Done

Pinterest lists three rules. A username:

1. Must be made up of letters only, or a mix of letters, numbers and underscores.
2. Must be between 3 and 30 characters.
3. Can't contain spaces or punctuation marks, and can't be numbers only.

Your name is what people see when they visit your profile, and it's separate from your username. On a business account, Pinterest asks for your business name; on a personal account, a first name is required and a last name is optional.

1. Click the more-options icon at the bottom left, then Settings.
2. Click Edit profile.
3. On a business account, enter your business name under Name. On a personal account, fill in First name and, if you like, Last name.
4. Click Save. In the app, tap Edit profile, change the name and tap Done.

The same Edit profile screen holds the details customers use to reach you. While you're there, check each one:

1. Under About, write a bio of up to 500 characters saying what you offer and who it's for.
2. Under Website, add or update the link to your site.
3. Under Email address, enter the address customers can use to contact you. It's visible on your profile.
4. Add a public phone number with its country code, if you take calls.
5. Add your business address if you have premises. This can only be edited in a web browser, not the app.
6. Click Save.

Pinterest's help page doesn't say whether your old profile address keeps working after a username change, so treat the old link as gone and update it everywhere you've shared it.

1. Before you change it, list everywhere your Pinterest link appears: website footer, email signature, other social bios, printed materials.
2. Pick a username that matches your business name on other platforms, within the 3 to 30 character limit.
3. Change it, click Save and open your new profile address to check it works.
4. Update each place on your list with the new link.

• Can't save? Check for a space, a full stop or other punctuation, or a username made only of numbers
• Each username creates a unique web address, so if yours is already in use, try a variation such as adding an underscore or your town
