Which way of adding products suits your business?
Google offers a manual route and automatic ones. The product editor suits a local shop selling physical goods, especially if you don't have a website where customers can buy online, your products don't have barcodes, or you don't have up-to-date stock data.
- Restaurants use the menu editor instead, and service businesses use the services editor.
| Option | Suits | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Product editor | Shops adding items by hand, including products without barcodes | Click Edit products on your profile and publish each item |
| Local Inventory app | Shops with a compatible point of sale system or wired barcode scanner and manufacturer (UPC/EAN) barcodes | Syncs the products in your point of sale system to Google, at no charge |
| Delivery partner sources | Shops already selling through Instacart, DoorDash or Uber Eats | In-store inventory from those partners can show automatically; you can opt out or unlink |
| Merchant Center | Businesses with a Merchant Center account linked to the profile | Edit products leads to Manage products in Merchant Center |

How do you add a product with the product editor?
Items you add appear in your Business Profile on Google Search. Before you start, note Google's rule: products must follow the Shopping ads policy, and submitting products that break it can lead to all of your uploaded products being removed.
- Sign in to the Google Account you use to manage your Business Profile.
- Go to your Business Profile. If you have several, click See your profile next to the right one.
- Click Edit products.
- Fill in the fields in the form.
- Click Publish.
- If a Merchant Center account is already linked to the profile, Edit products offers to manage products there, or to request access if you don't have it.
- In the US only, the product editor can generate a new background scene for a product photo with Product Studio, a generative AI tool. Using it means agreeing to its terms of service.
- Our suggestion: start with your best sellers, use your own clear photos and plain product names, and remove items you no longer stock.

How do you add in-store products automatically?
The Local Inventory app (previously called Pointy) adds in-store products to Google at no charge, and your in-store products may then show on Google Search, Google Maps and the Shopping tab. Google lists these eligibility conditions:
- To manage these products, go to your Business Profile and choose Edit profile, then Products, then Add product. On a computer in Google Search, select Edit products.
- Select Manage products to open Merchant Center.
- If you don't have access, select Request on the Request access to Merchant Center screen. You'll get an email when access is approved.
- You're in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland or Australia.
- You have a physical shop that uses a wired barcode scanner or a compatible point of sale system, and you sell products with manufacturer (UPC/EAN) barcodes.
- Your Business Profile is verified, and your shop is in an eligible vertical.
- If you make your own barcode labels, put both the UPC/EAN barcode and your own label on the product and scan both at the till.

Why aren't your products showing?
Work through these in order:
- One product broke the Shopping ads policy. Google can remove all your uploaded products when that happens, so check every item against the policy.
- You switched to automatic sync. Signing up to add products automatically replaces products you uploaded by hand.
- Your shop sells restricted items. Google treats some store types, such as gun and tobacco shops, as sensitive and doesn't show restricted products, only the other items you sell.
- You unlinked a product source. Inventory from that source is removed from Google within 48 hours.
- You expected it on Maps. Products added in the product editor appear in your Business Profile on Google Search; in-store products synced automatically may also show on Maps and the Shopping tab.
