Google Business Profile performance: what views, searches and calls mean

Go to your Business Profile and select Performance, or in the Google Maps app tap Business, then See more next to Performance. Choose a time period to see views (unique people a day on Search and Maps), the search terms that found you, and interactions such as calls, direction requests, website clicks, messages and bookings. Only verified profiles get this data.

What does each metric mean?

Google only shows the metrics that apply to your business, so a hair salon won't see menu clicks and a shop won't see hotel booking clicks.

Some metrics depend on your setup. Calls are only tracked if your profile has a phone number, bookings only count when they're managed through a booking provider, and products only count items sold at your physical location, not online.

MetricWhat Google counts
InteractionsThe total of all interactions with your profile
ViewsUnique people who viewed your profile on Search and Maps, counted once a day
SearchesThe search terms people used that showed your profile
CallsTaps on the call button (needs a phone number on the profile)
DirectionsRequests for directions, adjusted for repeat taps, cancelled requests and spam
Website clicksClicks on your website link
MessagesSeparate message conversations started with you
BookingsCompleted bookings through a booking provider
MenusClicks on menu content, per person per day
ProductsViews of products sold at your physical location
OffersViews and clicks on your offers

How are views and searches counted?

Views count unique visitors, and one person counts once a day. That's why your report can show fewer views than the notifications Google sends you: someone who looks on a phone and then a laptop, or comes back the same day, isn't counted twice. Views also measure your profile only, not your website or your business as a whole.

The searches report updates at the start of each month and can take up to 5 days to appear, so don't expect last week's searches straight away.

One more thing to keep in mind: performance data includes views, searches and actions from Google Ads as well as from organic results. If you run Google Ads, a jump in calls may come from an ad rather than from your profile.

How do you download the data?

To keep a record, or compare several locations, export a report from Business Profile Manager:

  1. On a computer, open Business Profile Manager and select the profiles you want.
  2. Click Actions, then Insights.
  3. Choose a timeframe and click Download Report.
  4. If a Download ready box appears, click Download.
  • If a column shows three asterisks (***), the profile may not be enabled for downloads.

What is the Insights tab?

Separately from Performance, some profiles have an Insights option with recommendations based on public, location-based information such as reviews, photos and local search trends. Google says it isn't available for every profile and updates often. You can rate each suggestion with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and describe any problem in the feedback box. Treat these as prompts to check, not instructions: you know your customers and your area better than a general recommendation does.

How should a small business read the numbers?

The report is most useful when you compare like with like. Our suggestions:

  • Compare a month with the same month last year where you can. Many local businesses are seasonal, and month-on-month swings can mislead.
  • Watch the actions, not just views. Calls, direction requests and website clicks are people deciding to visit or buy.
  • Read the search terms. If people find you by a service you barely mention, add it to your description and posts. If a term you want isn't there, check your categories.
  • Tag your profile's website link with UTM parameters, so visits from your profile show up separately in your website analytics.
  • Note what you changed and when, such as new photos, new hours or a run of posts, so you can see whether it moved anything.
  • Keep a simple monthly log of views, calls, direction requests and website clicks in one sheet. Three or four numbers tracked every month tell you more than a full export read once.

Keeping the profile active between reports

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. The numbers can only reflect what's on the profile. Regular, accurate posts give people more reasons to call, visit or click.

Zolyp writes Google Business updates from your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), designs on-brand images for them, and publishes updates and events to your connected profile on the schedule you approve, alongside your posts on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. Offers aren't supported, so create those in your Business Profile directly. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

Why is there no performance data for my profile?

Performance data is only available for verified profiles, and you must be signed in to the Google Account that manages the profile.

Why are my profile views lower than Google's notifications?

Views count unique people, once per day. Visits from several devices or repeat visits on the same day aren't counted again, so the report can be lower than notifications.

How often does the searches report update?

Google says the searches metric updates at the start of each month and can take up to 5 days to appear.

Do Google Business Profile views include ads?

Yes. Google says performance data includes views, searches and actions from both organic search results and Google Ads.

Can I download my Google Business Profile performance data?

Yes. In Business Profile Manager, select your profiles, click Actions, then Insights, choose a timeframe and click Download Report.
