How to post and schedule on Google Business Profile

Open your Business Profile, select Posts, then Add post, and choose Update, Offer or Event. Add your text, photo or video and any button, then turn on Schedule this post to pick a date and time, or use Repeats to post weekly or monthly. Select Post. Google reviews each post before it shows on Search and Maps.

What are Google Business Profile posts?

Posts are short updates you publish on your Business Profile: news, offers, events, photos and videos. They appear where people already look when they find you on Google, which makes them one of the few free ways to put fresh, current information in front of someone who is deciding whether to visit.

According to Google, customers find them in the Updates or Overview tabs of your profile on mobile, on Search and Maps, and in the From the owner section when they look at your profile on a computer.

Which types of post can you create?

Google offers three post types, each with its own required details:

  • Google warns that a post with a phone number in the description may be rejected if the number can't be verified as belonging to the business. Add extra numbers to the profile instead.
  • Posts older than six months are archived unless the post has a date range, as offers and events do.
TypeWhat it's forWhat it needs
UpdateNews and general information about your businessA description; optionally a photo or video and an action button with a link
OfferSales, deals and promotionsA title, dates and times; adds a View Offer button; optionally a coupon code, link and terms
EventSomething happening at your businessA title and start and end dates and times; without times it shows as lasting 24 hours on those dates

How do you create a Google Business Profile post?

The steps from Google's help centre:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Posts, then Add post.
  3. Choose the post type: Update, Offer or Event.
  4. Select the elements you want to add, such as a Button or a Coupon code.
  5. Add the details for your post.
  6. Select Post at the bottom right.

How do you schedule a Google Business Profile post?

Scheduling sits in the same form, just before you post. Google added two options here that save a lot of manual work for small businesses:

  1. Fill in the post as above.
  2. Turn on Schedule this post, then choose the date and time it should publish.
  3. To repeat it, open the Repeats menu and choose how often it should go out: weekly, monthly, or a custom schedule.
  4. Select Post.
  5. If you manage several locations, select the profiles that should get the same post, then select Post again; to post to one profile only, select Skip.

How do you edit or delete a post?

Go to your Business Profile and select Posts. Next to the post, select More, then Edit or Delete. Editing is the right move when an offer's dates change or an event moves, so customers never see out-of-date information.

Why is my post pending or not approved?

Google reviews every post against its content policy before showing it. The status tells you where it stands:

  • Keep it professional: no misspellings, extra characters or text that adds nothing.
  • Only link to sites you trust; links to malware, phishing or adult content are blocked.
  • Businesses in regulated industries (alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, gambling, financial services and others) can post, but shouldn't describe those products.
  • Fill in complete details: a descriptive title, start and end times, and offer information.
StatusWhat it means
LivePublic, and showing on Search and Maps
PendingNot showing yet: still uploading or processing, or the profile isn't verified
Not approvedNot showing: it breaks a content policy, which the question mark next to the status explains

What should a small business post each week?

The people who see your posts are usually close to a decision: they searched for you, or for what you do nearby. Posts that help them decide work best. A simple weekly rhythm:

  1. One update that answers a question customers ask before they book or visit, such as opening hours over a holiday or what a first appointment involves.
  2. One photo of something real: the team, a finished job, a new product on the shelf.
  3. An offer or event when you have one, with clear dates so it disappears on time.
  4. A repeating post for anything that happens on a schedule, like a weekly special, set once with Repeats.
  5. Once a month, check that every live offer and event is still accurate.

Common questions

Can you schedule Google Business Profile posts?

Yes. Turn on Schedule this post when you create the post and choose a date and time. You can also make a post repeat weekly, monthly or on a custom schedule.

How long do Google Business posts stay up?

Posts older than six months are archived unless they have a date range, as offers and events do.

Why is my Google Business post pending?

It's still uploading or processing, or your profile isn't verified yet. Posts only show on Search and Maps once their status is Live.

Can I post to several locations at once?

Yes. After you select Post, choose the other Business Profiles that should get the same post.

Why was my post with a phone number rejected?

Google may reject a post whose phone number can't be verified as connected to the business. Add the number to your profile instead of the post.

Does Zolyp publish to Google Business Profile?

Yes: updates and events, with text or one image, and an event carries its title and dates. Offers aren't supported, so create those in your Business Profile directly.
