What happens after you save an edit?
Google reviews each change, and you can follow it with the Check your edit status link. Your edit will show as one of these:
- Until you verify, you can only edit some fields: business name, category, address, hours, phone number and website.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Accepted | The new information shows on your profile. |
| Pending | Google is still reviewing it. This is normal for up to 30 days. |
| Not approved | Google couldn't confirm the change was accurate. You may be able to appeal. |

Why did Google change your profile?
If Google's sources, such as user reports and licensed content, say your information is wrong or out of date, Google may update your profile. You get a notification and an alert in Edit profile. Google says you can't manage every Google update through your profile, but you can always correct a field yourself. To check:
- Go to your Business Profile and select Edit profile.
- Look for a notification at the top of the page about Google updates.
- Check for information in blue text: that's what Google changed. Black or white text has no Google updates.
- If a change is wrong, edit that field with the correct information.
- Select Save. Your edit then goes through Google's normal review.

What if a customer suggests an edit?
Anyone can suggest a change to your listing on Google Maps. For some suggestions, Google contacts you first:
- You may get an email or an in-product notification. You then have 4 days to accept or reject the suggestion.
- If you don't respond within 4 days, Google may publish the edit if other public information, such as your website, supports it.
- Google may apply some suggested edits without asking you when that's needed to meet its policies.
- Edit profile, then Collected info shows information Google gathered about your business, where it came from and when. You can confirm it or select Delete.
- Our suggestion: keep your website's hours, phone number and address the same as your profile. Google uses public information like your site to decide whether a suggested edit is supported.

How do you appeal an edit that wasn't approved?
Rejected edits to your name, category, address, phone number or website can be appealed. In the UK and EEA you use Google's appeals tool. Everywhere else, you use the Contact us form: choose the most related issue, fill it in and submit, then reply to Google's email if the first answer doesn't fix it. The appeals tool steps are:
- Open the Business Profile appeals tool and confirm the account you're signed in with.
- Select the Business Profile, then Continue.
- Select the rejected decision, then Continue. You'll see the date, the reason and the policy involved.
- Optionally, add evidence with Choose file, and explain why the edit should be accepted.
- Tick the box to confirm you're ready and select Submit appeal. Google emails you the decision.
- Useful evidence includes a business registration, business licence, tax certificate or utility bill, with a name and address that match your profile.
- Reviews can take up to 5 business days. You can appeal each decision once, so don't send duplicates while one is pending.
- If your profile is suspended or disabled, it has to be reinstated before you can appeal content decisions.

What else stops an edit from showing?
If an edit still won't stick, check these:
- You changed your business name or moved address after verifying. Google says this may require verifying again, so look for a Get verified prompt.
- The edit breaks Google's rules, such as a business name that doesn't match your real-world signage, or categories used as keywords.
- You update locations by spreadsheet. Google says to import before managing Google updates; blank fields may trigger an automatic update, and empty columns with headings delete existing information.
- Still stuck after an appeal? Ask in the Google Business Profile Help Community or contact Google Business Profile support.

Common questions
How long do Google Business Profile edits take?
Google says reviews usually take about 10 minutes, but some take up to 30 days.
Why does my Google Business Profile say Not approved?
Google may not approve a change it can't confirm is accurate. Rejected edits to your name, category, address, phone or website may be appealable.
Why is some information in blue on my profile?
Blue text in the profile editor marks information Google changed. Black or white text means there are no Google updates for that field.
Can someone else change my Google Business Profile?
Anyone can suggest an edit. For some suggestions, Google gives you 4 days to accept or reject; if you don't respond, it may publish the edit if public information supports it.
How do I appeal a rejected edit outside the UK and EEA?
Use Google Business Profile's Contact us form, choose the most related issue and submit it. Reply to Google's email if the first answer doesn't resolve it.
