What does Google need to see?
Google checks three things, and what counts depends on whether customers come to you:
- If your business has no permanent signage on site, Google says to list it as a service-area business instead.
| Show | Storefront or hybrid business | Service-area business |
|---|---|---|
| Where you are | Street signs, building numbers, nearby businesses or landmarks that match your Maps location | Street signs or landmarks at your business address, not empty land. Home-based businesses can film signs in the immediate neighbourhood. |
| That the business exists | Your storefront or signage, with the business name on a permanent fixture matching your profile name | Tools, equipment, products, your workspace, business cards or branded clothing |
| That you manage it | Somewhere only staff can reach, such as the till, kitchen, stock room or point-of-sale system | You doing the work or using business-only things, such as unlocking a branded van, or a permit, invoice or utility bill in your profile's name |

How do you record and upload the video?
- Open your Business Profile on your phone.
- Tap Get verified. You may need to enter your phone number and tap Next first.
- Tap Business video, then Next.
- Read the requirements and allow access to your location, camera and microphone if asked.
- Tap Next, then Start recording. Tap the record button to begin and the stop button to finish.
- Watch it back. Tap Try again if anything is missing.
- Tap Upload video.
- Record live in the app. Pre-recorded videos aren't allowed, and the clip must be one unbroken take of at least 30 seconds.
- Don't show bank account, tax or ID numbers, private information or other people's faces.
- Our suggestion: walk the route once without recording, so the clip moves from the street to your sign to a staff-only area without stopping.

Recorded video or live video call?
Google lists both a video recording and a live video call among its verification methods. Google decides which methods you're offered, based on your business type, public information, region and hours, and you can't change the method it assigns. Where you're eligible, Google recommends video verification.
- Live video calls only run during your location's business hours and aren't offered to every business.
- For a live call, you need a device that supports video calls and must be at the business to show your location and proof you manage it.

What if your video is rejected?
Common reasons Google gives are the business name not being visible on the storefront, no nearby area shown, or no proof you're authorised to run the business.
- Open your Business Profile on your phone and tap Review issues.
- Read the problems Google lists.
- Record a new video that shows everything from the first one, plus what was missing.
- Upload the new video.

Why else might verification fail?
Check these before contacting Google:
- The upload failed. Google says uploads sometimes fail first time, so try again.
- Get verified appeared again. Google couldn't fully verify you; try again or use another method offered.
- You're asked to verify again after editing your profile. Changes to business details can trigger re-verification; follow the steps shown on your profile.
- Your business is online only. Businesses without in-person services aren't eligible for a Business Profile.
- You're waiting on a postcard instead. Don't edit your name, address or category, and don't request a new code; that cancels the one in the post.
- Still stuck? Google says to try another verification method first, as support can help more easily after that, then use Contact us.
