Daily or lifetime budget: what's the difference?
Both work for campaign budgets and ad set budgets:
| Daily budget | Lifetime budget | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Average daily spend over a calendar week | Total spend over the whole run |
| Hard cap? | No, spend varies day to day | Yes |
| Best for | Spending roughly the same each day for consistent results | Not going over a set total, if daily spend can vary |
| Runs shorter than a day | Not allowed | Required |

How much can Meta spend in a day?
Meta's daily budget page explains the limits with a $100 daily budget as the example:
- On a good day, Meta may spend up to 75% over your daily budget: up to $175. Some days it spends less.
- Across a week ending Saturday at midnight, it won't spend more than 7 times your daily budget: $700.
- With ad set budget sharing on, up to 20% of the daily budget can move to other ad sets, so a day can reach $210 and a week $840.
- If an ad set starts mid-week, or you change the budget mid-week, the limit for the rest of the week is prorated plus up to 25% of the daily budget.
- Meta says it will consider refunds for spend above 1.75 times the daily budget in a day or 7 times it in a week.

Should you set the budget on the campaign or the ad set?
Campaign budgets all use Advantage+ campaign budget: one budget that Meta moves in real time to the ad sets with the best opportunities. Meta says this works best if you're flexible about how spend splits across ad sets.
Ad set budgets give you more control over each ad set, which helps when ad sets have different optimisation goals, bid strategies or very different audience sizes. Ad set budget sharing can't be used with campaign budgets.

How do you change a budget, and what's the minimum?
You need admin access to the ad account. In Ads Manager:
- Hover over the campaign (for a campaign budget) or the ad set (for an ad set budget).
- Click Edit.
- Change the budget.
- Click Publish. Meta says the new budget takes about 15 minutes to apply.
- Minimums vary by country, objective and settings, and Ads Manager shows an alert if you're below them. They're calculated per day, so a five-day lifetime budget must be at least five times the daily minimum.
- With a cost per result goal, Meta suggests a daily budget of at least 5 times the goal.
- When lowering a lifetime budget, keep it at or above what you've spent so far plus 10% of the last two days' spend.

Why did your budget spend so fast, or not at all?
Meta's explanations:
- Accelerated delivery spends as fast as possible, sometimes in under an hour. Switch to standard delivery.
- The ad set was in the learning phase, when Meta may deliver more aggressively.
- Your budget is close to or below your bid. Meta says the budget should be higher than the bid.
- Ads paused with budget left: you may have hit your account's daily spending limit, which Meta sets.
- Unpausing straight after a budget change can deliver on the old budget for about 15 minutes, so wait before unpausing.
- A bill after pausing covers spend from before the ad stopped; it doesn't mean the ad restarted.

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't spend or manage your ad budget. It works on the organic side, planning and publishing the posts you might later choose to promote.
Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.
Common questions
Can Facebook spend more than my daily budget?
Yes. Meta may spend up to 75% more on some days, but no more than 7 times your daily budget in a Sunday to Saturday week.
Is a lifetime budget a hard cap?
Yes. Meta says lifetime budgets are a hard cap, not an average.
What is the minimum budget for Facebook ads?
Meta doesn't publish one figure: minimums vary by country, objective, currency and settings. Ads Manager warns you if your budget is too low.
How long does a budget change take on Facebook ads?
Meta says about 15 minutes. It suggests waiting 15 minutes after changing the budget before changing your bid or unpausing.
Should I use a campaign budget or ad set budgets?
Campaign budget suits you if Meta can split spend freely between ad sets. Ad set budgets suit ad sets with different goals, bid strategies or audience sizes.
