Facebook Business Manager is now a business portfolio: how to set one up

Facebook Business Manager is now called a business portfolio, and you manage it from Settings in Meta Business Suite. To create one, go to business.facebook.com, click the drop-down menu below Home in the top left, click Create a business portfolio, enter your business name, your name and work email, then click Create. Then add your Page, Instagram account and the people who help you.

Is Business Manager the same as a business portfolio?

Yes, in practice. Meta's help centre now uses the name business portfolio for the container that holds your business assets (Facebook Pages, Instagram and Threads accounts, ad accounts, catalogues, pixels) and the people who can work on them. Older guides, links and people still say Business Manager. The old role names have changed too: Meta's own pages say full control was "formerly the business admin role" and basic access was formerly the employee role.

A portfolio isn't something your customers see. It's how Meta knows the Page belongs to your business rather than to one person's profile. Meta says you need one to:

  • Use Meta Business Suite.
  • Enrol in monthly invoicing for ads.
  • Run ads about social issues, elections or politics.
  • Verify your domain.
  • Create a publisher block list.

How do you create a business portfolio?

Meta says you can personally create up to two business portfolios, and there's no limit on how many you can belong to. That matters for agencies and freelancers: you don't need your own portfolio per client, because clients can add you to theirs. Meta's steps, using your Facebook profile:

  1. Go to business.facebook.com and log in with your Facebook profile.
  2. Click the drop-down menu below Home in the top left.
  3. Click Create a business portfolio.
  4. Enter a name. Meta says it should match your business's public name, because it's visible across Meta, and it can't contain special characters.
  5. Enter your first name, surname and business email address. Meta uses this email to contact you; customers don't see it.
  6. Click Create (or Create portfolio), then confirm your email address from the message Meta sends.

How do you add your Facebook Page?

You need full control of the portfolio. When you add a Page, Meta says your business owns it, and people who already had access to the Page keep it. Each business asset can belong to only one portfolio, so if someone else's portfolio already owns your Page, they have to remove it first, or you request shared access as a partner. If the Page is linked to an Instagram account, Meta recommends adding that account too. Then:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite, then Settings.
  2. Click Pages under Accounts.
  3. Click + Add, then choose Add an existing Facebook Page. (You can also create a new Page here, or request shared access to a Page you don't own.)
  4. Enter the Page name or URL and click Next.
  5. Review the request and terms, tick the box, click Add Page, then Done.

How do you add people and give them access?

Only someone with full control of the portfolio can add people. Meta's steps:

  1. Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite for your portfolio.
  2. Click People in the left menu.
  3. Click Invite people in the top right and enter the email address the person uses for Facebook.
  4. Click Next, choose their business portfolio permissions, then click Next.
  5. Choose which assets (your Page, Instagram account, ad account) they can work on and with what permissions, then click Invite.

Which access level should each person get?

Meta has two levels, full control and partial access, for the portfolio and for each asset in it. Give people only what their job needs. New people get basic access by default.

AccessWhat it allows
Full control (formerly business admin)Everything: settings, people, assets, deleting the portfolio
Basic, partial access (formerly employee)Work only on the assets they're assigned
Apps and integrations, partial access (formerly developer)Conversions API, events, apps and access tokens
Finance, an advanced optionView or manage transactions, invoices and payment methods, on top of other access
Temporary accessBasic access for 3 to 75 days, then removed automatically

What else is in Settings?

Settings is where the portfolio lives day to day. Meta lists these areas:

  • Users: people, partners and system users.
  • Accounts: Pages, ad accounts, Instagram and Threads accounts, WhatsApp accounts and more.
  • Security centre: require two-factor authentication, add a second person with full control, and start business verification.
  • Requests: invitations you've sent and received.
  • Business info: your general business details.

How do you keep the portfolio safe?

Three habits prevent most lock-outs. Make sure two people you trust have full control, which Security centre is built for. Turn on two-factor authentication, which Meta recommends. And give everyone else partial access only.

Meta also warns that a Page in a portfolio needs at least one person with full control to stay active; if no one has it, the Page is deactivated and scheduled for deletion. Check this before anyone leaves the business.

Where Zolyp fits once the portfolio is set up

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. A tidy portfolio means your Page is ready for any publishing tool to connect to. Zolyp publishes to Facebook Pages, and team members are unlimited on every plan, so a colleague or agency can help without sharing a login.

Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

Where did Facebook Business Manager go?

Meta now calls it a business portfolio. You create and manage it at business.facebook.com, in Meta Business Suite's Settings. Older guides and links still use the name Business Manager.

Do I need a business portfolio for a small Facebook Page?

Not to post. But Meta says you need one to use Meta Business Suite, and it makes the Page belong to the business rather than to one person, which helps if staff change.

How many business portfolios can I create?

Meta says you can personally create up to two, and you can belong to any number of portfolios that other businesses invite you to.

Does adding my Page to a portfolio remove anyone's access?

No. Meta says people who had access to the Page before you added it can still access and manage it. Review that list afterwards and remove anyone who no longer needs it.
