Where can Facebook ads appear?
Which placements you can use depends on your objective, ad type and settings, and some are still rolling out by country. Meta groups them like this:
| Group | Placements |
|---|---|
| Feeds | Facebook Feed (including the Friends tab from March 2026), Marketplace, right column, notifications, Business Explore, Instagram Feed, profile feed and Explore home, Threads feed |
| Stories, Status and Reels | Facebook, Instagram and Messenger Stories, Facebook and Instagram Reels, WhatsApp Status |
| In-stream ads for reels | Facebook in-stream reels and ads on Facebook Reels |
| Search | Facebook and Instagram search results |
| Apps and sites | Audience Network native, banner, interstitial and rewarded video |

What are Advantage+ placements?
With Advantage+ placements (shown as Placements with Advantage+ on), Meta's delivery system looks across every available placement for the most cost-effective opportunities. Meta says that in one of its experiments, ad sets using it had an 11.7% lower cost per action on average than manual setups, and that adding placements doesn't increase the cost of your ad.
You don't need an Instagram account to use Instagram placements: your Facebook Page can be the voice of the ad.

How do you choose placements manually?
For Awareness, Traffic or Engagement campaigns:
- In Meta Ads Manager, click + Create, choose the objective and click Continue.
- Build the campaign until you reach the Placements section of the ad set.
- Hover over Advantage+ placements and click Edit, then select Manual placements.
- Optionally, edit Devices and operating systems, and untick platforms you don't want under Platforms.
- Under Placements, untick the placements to exclude.
- Decide whether to keep Allow limited spend to excluded placements, then finish the ad and click Publish.
- For Leads, App promotion or Sales, click Show more settings in Placements and edit Placement controls instead. Excluding any placement, or opting out of mobile or desktop, turns Advantage+ off.
- Allow limited spend to excluded placements lets Meta spend up to 5% of your budget on each excluded placement when it's likely to help.

When should you exclude placements?
Meta suggests trying these before you exclude anything:
- Format worries: a placement that can't show your format is excluded automatically. Asset customisation lets you crop and trim media for each placement.
- Cost worries: broaden your audience rather than cutting placements.
- Brand safety: use inventory filters and block lists from the Brand Safety and Suitability hub.
- Business rules: if you can only advertise in certain places, set account controls for your ad account. These apply even with Advantage+ placements.
- Partner live streams: you can exclude them for one ad in Ads Manager or for the whole account in brand safety controls.

Why isn't your ad showing in a placement?
Work through these:
- No tickbox for it: the placement isn't available for your ad type or objective.
- Your creative format isn't supported there, so Meta left it out automatically.
- Account controls limit placements for every campaign in the ad account.
- The placement is still in development and not offered in your audience's location.
- Delivery simply favoured other placements. Check the Platform chart or a placement breakdown in Ads Manager to see where the ad ran.

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't buy or place ads. It keeps your organic Feed and Reels posts going, so the Page your ads point to looks active.
Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.
Common questions
Do more placements make Facebook ads more expensive?
No. Meta says adding more placements doesn't increase the cost of your ad and can improve results.
Can I run ads on Facebook only, not Instagram?
Yes. Choose Manual placements in the ad set and untick Instagram under Platforms.
Do I need an Instagram account to show ads on Instagram?
No. Meta says your Facebook Page can serve as the voice of your ad on Instagram.
What does Allow limited spend to excluded placements do?
It lets Meta spend up to 5% of your budget on each placement you excluded when that's likely to improve performance. You can turn it off.
Should I use Advantage+ placements?
Meta recommends it for most ads. Exclude placements only when you have a clear reason, such as a business rule or brand safety concern.
