How do you view your ad results?

In Meta Ads Manager on a computer:

  1. Go to Ads Manager.
  2. Click Campaigns, Ad sets or Ads.
  3. Hover over the one you want and click View charts.
  4. Switch between Performance, Demographics, Platform and Delivery (Delivery is only for reach and frequency ad sets).
  5. Click Customise metrics in the Performance chart to change what it shows.
  • Performance shows clicks, reach and cost; Demographics splits results by age and gender; Platform shows where the ad ran, such as Facebook or Instagram.
  • Meta says a short delay before metrics appear is normal.

Which metrics should you check first?

Meta's definitions of the core metrics:

  • Ad relevance diagnostics (quality, engagement rate and conversion rate rankings) compare your ad with others competing for the same audience. They need at least 500 impressions.
MetricWhat it means
ResultsHow many times your ad achieved the outcome you chose, counted by default with 7-day click, 1-day view and 1-day engagement attribution
Cost per resultAmount spent divided by results; use it to compare campaigns
ReachAccounts that saw your ad at least once (estimated)
ImpressionsTimes your ad was on screen, including repeat views
FrequencyImpressions divided by reach: the average times each account saw the ad (estimated)

How do you get a report emailed to you?

Ads Reporting can email a single-account report on a schedule. You need admin, advertiser or analyst access to the ad account.

  1. Open Ads Reporting from Analyse and report in the main menu, or via Export, then Create custom report.
  2. Click Reports and open the report.
  3. Click the link under the report name, or the cog icon in the top right, depending on your version.
  4. Turn on the schedule email, add the subscriber and click Apply.
  5. Click Save.
  • Only people with access to the ad account can open the report. To share it with someone else, export it and send the file.

Why don't your numbers add up?

Meta points to these reasons:

  • Results aren't the same as billing: an ad can count purchases but be charged on impressions.
  • Ads Manager and Events Manager may show different numbers and types of events.
  • Some results are modelled when data is partial or missing, and reach and frequency use sampled data.
  • Rising frequency alongside falling results can mean ad fatigue: change the creative or targeting.
  • Relevance rankings are missing for ads with fewer than 500 impressions.

Where Zolyp fits

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't run or report on ads. Its Analyze feature writes a plain-language weekly report on the posts you published through it, so you know which organic posts earned their place.

Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

What's a good cost per result on Facebook?

Meta doesn't publish one figure. It says cost per result depends on your bid, audience, optimisation, creative and schedule, and suggests using it to compare your own campaigns.

What's the difference between reach and impressions?

Reach counts accounts that saw your ad at least once. Impressions count every time it was on screen, including repeat views by the same account.

What frequency is too high on Facebook ads?

Meta doesn't set a limit. It says frequency may average 1 to 2 per ad set or be much higher, and to watch for falling results as frequency rises.

Why are my Facebook ad results different from my website analytics?

Meta counts results with its own attribution setting (7-day click, 1-day view and 1-day engagement by default) and may model some results, so other tools often differ.

Can I share an ads report with someone who isn't on my ad account?

Not inside Ads Reporting. Meta suggests exporting the report and sending them the file.
