Why does Pinterest block or change links?
Pinterest's help and policy pages give these reasons:
- The link redirects to another page, or uses a URL shortener Pinterest doesn't allow
- The destination is misleading, inappropriate or spammy, or breaks the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines
- The page is blank, in which case Pinterest may swap in a more useful link
- The site is unsafe, deceptive, untrustworthy or unoriginal. Pinterest may block new Pins to it, and remove or limit existing ones
- The link uses excessive or deceptive redirection. Pinterest's rule is no surprises: people should be able to predict where a link goes
- An existing Pin was redirected to a new destination, which the spam rules forbid

How do you change the link on a Pin?
You can only edit links on Pins you created. On a computer:
- Click the Pin to open it.
- Click the edit icon.
- Replace the address in the Website field with a direct link to the page.
- Click Save.
- In the app: open the Pin, tap the ellipsis icon, tap Edit Pin, change the Website field and tap Done
- You can't update links on Pins you saved from Pinterest or with the browser button
- You also can't change a published Pin's image or video. If those are wrong too, create a new Pin

How do you keep your website in good standing?
Pinterest's performance troubleshooting page lists these checks for the sites your Pins link to:
- Don't block Pinterestbot, and check your hosting company isn't blocking it either
- Check every link goes to the right page, and avoid broken links
- Make the Pin's image, text and keywords match the landing page
- Link to a page with more on that exact idea, not just your homepage
- Make sure the site loads in under 4 seconds
- Keep the domain safe: follow Pinterest's guidelines, include service information and avoid spam, suspicious reviews or unsafe images
- Claim your website so you get analytics for Pins linking to it

Why can't you save Pins from your own site?
If the problem is saving rather than the link itself, it's usually a spam limit:
- Saving lots of Pins from the same website quickly can trigger a rate limit block. Wait a few minutes; most limits are removed within 24 hours
- A suspicious activity message means activity from your IP address or area may be blocked. Wait 30 minutes before trying again
- Repeatedly saving the same Pins or uploading content that already exists can get you flagged as spam and temporarily blocked from creating Pins
- Spread out what you do. Pinterest suggests varying your actions rather than repeating one

Quick fixes by symptom
Match what you're seeing to the likely cause:
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Pinterest won't accept your link | Redirect, URL shortener or a flagged site | Use the direct page address |
| A Pin now goes to a different page | The original led to a blank page | Edit the Website field to a working page |
| Can't change a Pin's link | You saved the Pin rather than creating it | Create a new Pin with the right link |
| Blocked when saving from your site | Rate limit or suspicious activity limit | Wait, then vary your actions. Most limits lift within 24 hours |
| Pins from your site get little reach | Broken links, mismatch or a slow site | Work through the website checks above |

Common questions
Why does Pinterest say my link is blocked?
Pinterest blocks links that redirect, use certain URL shorteners, or lead to misleading, spammy or unsafe content. Link straight to the page instead.
Can I use a link shortener on Pinterest?
Pinterest doesn't allow certain URL shorteners and may block ones abused for spam. It recommends linking directly to the source.
Can I change the link on a Pin I saved?
No. You can only edit links on Pins you created, not ones saved from Pinterest or with the browser button.
Why did the link on my Pin change by itself?
If a Pin leads to a blank page, Pinterest may automatically replace the link with a more useful one.
Does a slow website affect my Pins?
Pinterest lists site speed in its performance troubleshooting and suggests your domain loads in under 4 seconds.
