Can you report it, and is it copyright?
Only the copyright owner, or an agent authorised to act for them, can file a copyright report. Pinterest also warns that knowingly false reports can make you liable for damages under section 512(f) of the DMCA or similar laws, so check before you file.
- Someone copied your logo or brand name: that's trademark, not copyright, and Pinterest handles it through a separate trademark process
- A photo of you that you want taken down: Pinterest suggests a privacy complaint through its help centre contact form instead
- Pinterest says it can't give legal advice. For a complicated dispute, speak to a lawyer

How do you file a copyright report?
Use the Fill out copyright complaint form link on Pinterest's copyright policy page, or email a written notice to copyright@pinterest.com. Either way, include:
- What your copyrighted work is.
- The Pinterest content you say infringes it, such as the Pin's URL.
- Your mailing address, phone number and email address.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you own the copyright or may act for the owner.
- Your full legal name and an electronic or physical signature.

How do you remove every copy of an image?
One photo is often saved many times. Start your report by asking Pinterest to remove all Pins that contain the image.
- Collect the URL of at least one Pin that uses your image.
- At the start of your report, ask Pinterest to remove all Pins containing that image.
- Report any edited copies separately, by URL.
- Pinterest can only find identical copies, so resized or altered versions may not be caught by the first request

What is the Content Claiming Portal?
For rights holders with lots of work, the portal lets you upload images or videos and decide how they appear on Pinterest. Access is limited: you apply, Pinterest picks a small number of rights holders, and if you're turned down you can reapply after 30 days.
- Click Create claims to upload reference files, up to 50 works at a time, with no total limit
- A claim shows Processing for up to 24 hours, then Active
- If another party claims the same work, the status shows Conflict and you have 7 days to dispute their claim or discard yours
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Mine only | Removes existing and future copies, except Pins you saved yourself |
| Website only | Removes existing and future copies, except Pins linking to your claimed website |
| Block all | Removes all existing and future copies |
| Attribution | Keeps the copies on Pinterest but adds your attribution |

What happens next, and what if your own Pin is removed?
After a report, Pinterest may remove the content. The other side has options too:
- The person whose Pin was removed can file a counter-notification. Pinterest forwards valid ones to you, including their contact details
- If you don't tell Pinterest you've started a court or Copyright Claims Board action, the content is reinstated, which Pinterest says can take up to 14 business days
- People whose Pins are removed get strikes. Repeat infringers can lose the ability to save Pins or have their account disabled
- If your own Pin was removed in error, you can file a counter-notification, or appeal the strike if you don't want to
