What makes a good Pin for a business?

A good business Pin answers a search and leads somewhere useful. Someone typing 'small bathroom storage ideas' wants ideas they can use; a Pin that shows three real examples and links to a page with more is doing its job. A Pin that just shows your logo and 'visit our website' isn't.

Pinterest's own creative advice for businesses is consistent: show products or ideas in realistic settings, avoid abstract images that don't show your brand, keep your logo visible without letting it take over, put key messaging at the top, and include a specific call to action. Its audience-building guide also suggests mixing formats such as video, carousels and collages.

Product and shopping Pin ideas (11 to 20)

Product Pins work best when they show the product being used rather than floating on a white background alone. Pinterest says to make products the focus and show them in realistic settings.

Inspiration and idea-list Pin ideas (21 to 30)

These Pins catch people early, while they're still collecting ideas. They often earn saves rather than clicks, which helps keep your Pins in circulation.

Seasonal and planning Pin ideas (31 to 40)

Seasonal Pins need to go live well before the date. Pinterest Create's seasonal advice is to launch content four to six weeks before big moments, and its fundamentals page suggests planning 45 to 60 days ahead.

How do you turn an idea into a Pin?

Pinterest's creative best-practices page recommends a vertical 2:3 image, such as 1000 by 1500 pixels, notes that titles can be up to 100 characters with the first 40 most likely to show, and suggests visuals in the middle, key messaging at the top and extra details at the bottom. Pinterest Create says you can add up to 10 topic tags per Pin.

  1. Write the search phrase the Pin should match, such as 'small balcony garden ideas'.
  2. Make a vertical image with the idea readable on a phone: a short headline at the top and the product or result in the middle.
  3. Put the search phrase near the start of the title, inside the first 40 characters if you can.
  4. Write a description in plain sentences that says what the Pin shows and who it's for. Don't stuff it with keywords; Pinterest's community guidelines treat stuffing irrelevant keywords as spam.
  5. Add relevant topic tags and alt text.
  6. Link to the page that delivers what the Pin promises, then save it to the board that matches the phrase.

Turning these ideas into Pins with Zolyp (our product)

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. If the list is fine but the making is the bottleneck, you can paste an idea from it into Zolyp's Create and get a finished post with a vertical visual for Pinterest and the other platforms you choose.

In Create you type an idea, choose the platforms each post is for (Pinterest included) and ask for up to six posts at once; Zolyp writes the caption, designs an on-brand visual and adds hashtags, fitted to each platform. Nothing goes live without your sign-off. Lite is $9 a month per brand for scheduling posts you make yourself; the plans that create posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

What kind of content does best on Pinterest?

Useful, visual ideas people want to save or act on: how-tos, checklists, idea lists, products in real settings and seasonal guides. Pinterest's own advice is to show realistic settings and avoid abstract images.

Can I post the same content I post on Instagram?

You can reuse the idea and the photos, but make a vertical Pin with a searchable title and a link. Pinterest advises against repeatedly saving the same Pins or uploading content that already exists on Pinterest.

Should every Pin link to my website?

Most business Pins should, because the click is what turns a Pin into a visit. Link each one to the specific page it shows, not your home page.

Do I need text on my Pins?

A short headline helps people understand the Pin at a glance, especially for how-tos and lists. Keep it short and put it at the top, as Pinterest's creative guidance suggests.

How many ideas do I need each month?

One for each Pin you plan to publish. If you make three Pins a week, about a dozen ideas a month is enough, with a few spares.
