Pinterest Analytics: where to find it and what the numbers mean

Pinterest Analytics comes with a free business account. On a computer, select the menu icon at the top left and, under Analytics, select Overview to see impressions, saves, Pin clicks, outbound clicks and engagement for the last 30 days, plus your top Pins and boards. For a single Pin, open it from Created on your profile and click See more stats.

What do the Pinterest metrics mean?

These are Pinterest's own definitions, shortened. Recent figures are real-time estimates, so they can go down as well as up.

  • Outbound clicks are only counted from the date a link was added to the Pin.
  • Video metrics, such as 10-second plays and Played to 95%, only show when you filter to video Pins.

Which filters are worth using?

On a computer, click More filters at the top right. A few filters answer most small-business questions:

  • Date range: custom ranges over the past year and a half, plus real-time estimates for the last 48 hours.
  • Content type: Organic, Paid and earned, or All. Use Organic to judge your own Pins without ads mixed in.
  • Pin format: compare image and video Pins (choose Organic first).
  • Source: Your Pins versus Other Pins, meaning Pins other people saved from your claimed website.
  • Device: Mobile, Desktop or Tablet, which helps you decide where your website needs work.
  • Include saved Pins: adds Pins you saved that don't link to your claimed domains. It's off by default.

How do you check the stats for one Pin?

Pin stats show how a single Pin is doing, and update in real time, so they can differ from the Analytics Overview.

  1. Click your profile picture at the top right and click Created.
  2. Select the Pin and review the metrics below it.
  3. Click See more stats for every metric, with filters for date range, content type, device and source.
  4. For a video Pin, switch to the Video tab for views, 10-second plays, 95% views and play time.

What does Audience Insights show?

Audience Insights tells you who is seeing your Pins. Open it from the same menu: under Analytics, click Audience insights. It shows the last 30 days.

Choose between your engaged audience, your total audience, or Pinterest's total or engaged audience. Affinities lists the categories and interests your audience leans towards compared with Pinterest overall. Demographics breaks it down by age, gender, location and device. Use Compare to put two audiences side by side, and Export CSV to save the comparison.

Why do your numbers look low or drop?

Before deciding Pinterest isn't working, check these causes from Pinterest's own troubleshooting guide:

  • Your website isn't claimed, so Pins from it count as saved content and don't show in the Overview.
  • Analytics shows published Pins by default. Saved Pins only appear if you tick Include saved Pins.
  • Recent numbers are estimates and can be revised down.
  • Engagement varies with language, location, seasons, holidays and trends, and there's no fixed window: old Pins can pick up again months later.
  • Broken links, slow pages or Pins that don't match their landing page can hold distribution back.

A simple monthly review routine

You don't need to check Pinterest daily. Once a month is enough for most small businesses:

  1. Set the date range to the last 30 days, Content type to Organic, and export the data as a CSV.
  2. Sort top Pins by outbound clicks to see which ideas send people to your site.
  3. Sort by saves to see which ideas people want to keep, and make more like them.
  4. Compare image and video Pins with the Pin format filter.
  5. Rewrite the titles of Pins with plenty of impressions but few clicks.
  6. Add UTM parameters to your Pin links so your website analytics show which visits came from Pinterest.

Turning the numbers into next week's Pins

Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp's Analyze feature reports on the posts it published across your connected accounts in a plain-language weekly write-up: what landed, what didn't, and one or two things to change. What worked feeds back into your Brand Brain and the next plan.

Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the copy and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. Nothing goes out until you approve it. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.

Common questions

Is Pinterest Analytics free?

Yes. It comes with a Pinterest business account, which is free. Pinterest says you need a business account to view it.

How far back does Pinterest Analytics go?

You can set custom date ranges over the past year and a half. The Overview opens on the last 30 days.

What's the difference between Pin clicks and outbound clicks?

A Pin click opens the Pin in close-up on Pinterest. An outbound click takes someone off Pinterest, usually to the link on your Pin.

Why don't Pin stats match the Analytics Overview?

Most Pin stats update in real time and are estimates, so they can differ from Analytics and can be revised down later.

Can I see stats for Pins other people save from my website?

Yes, once you claim your website. Use the Source filter and choose Other Pins.
