How to schedule Pins on Pinterest

Pinterest schedules Pins natively from a business account: click Create, choose Create Pin, add your image or video and details, select Publish at a later date, pick the day and time, and finish the Pin. You can schedule up to 30 days ahead and have up to 10 Pins waiting at once. After scheduling you can change the date, title, board, description and link, but not the image or video.

How do you schedule a Pin?

Scheduling is built into Pin creation for business accounts. These are the steps from Pinterest's business help centre:

  1. Log in to your Pinterest business account and click Create at the top left.
  2. Under Create, select Create Pin.
  3. Upload the image or video for the Pin. You can select up to 10 images at once, and each becomes its own Pin.
  4. Fill in the Pin's details: title, description, board and link.
  5. Select Publish at a later date and choose the day and time.
  6. Finish creating the Pin.

What are Pinterest's scheduling limits?

Pinterest keeps native scheduling deliberately small:

RuleLimit
Account typeBusiness account
How far aheadUp to 30 days
Pins waiting at onceUp to 10
Scheduled per actionOne Pin at a time (up to 10 images create 10 Pins)
Editable after schedulingPublish date, title, board, description, link
Not editable after schedulingThe image or video

Where do you find and delete scheduled Pins?

Scheduled Pins appear on your profile, above your published Pins; Pinterest notes it can take a few minutes for a newly scheduled Pin to show. To delete one, click the ellipsis at the bottom of the Pin and select Delete. To change the picture, delete the scheduled Pin and create it again, since the media can't be edited.

How should a small business plan Pins?

Pinterest behaves more like a search engine than a feed: people search for ideas and save them for later. That changes how you plan.

  1. Pick the searches you want to show up for (for example “small kitchen storage ideas” or “wedding cake flavours”) and use those words in the Pin title and description.
  2. Make each Pin vertical and self-explanatory, with the idea readable without clicking.
  3. Point every Pin at the most relevant page on your site, not just the homepage.
  4. Use the 10-Pin limit as a rolling two-week queue: top it up once a week.
  5. Plan seasonal Pins well ahead of the season, but remember native scheduling only reaches 30 days out.

What doesn't native scheduling solve?

The 10-Pin cap and 30-day window are fine for an occasional Pin, but they make a steady Pinterest presence a weekly chore, and Pinterest scheduling does nothing for the rest of your channels.

  • No more than 10 Pins queued at once
  • No help designing the Pin or writing a searchable title
  • Images and video can't be swapped once scheduled
  • Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn still need their own schedules

What limits does a Pin have to fit?

Scheduling is only half of it: the Pin itself has to fit Pinterest's field and media limits, or it fails when it's due to publish. These are the limits Zolyp checks a Pin against, the same figures listed in the docs:

  • Write the title for search first: the words someone would type to find the idea, not a slogan.
  • Use the description to say what the Pin links to and who it's for, in plain sentences.
  • Alt text describes the image for people using screen readers; it isn't a second place for keywords.
LimitPinterest
Pin titleUp to 100 characters
DescriptionUp to 500 characters
Alt textUp to 500 characters
Pins per connected account20 in any 24 hours
Video length4 seconds to 15 minutes
Video fileMP4, MOV or M4V, up to 1 GB
Video shapebetween 1:2 and 1.91:1 (1:1, 2:3, 4:5 or 9:16 recommended)

What should you check before you schedule a Pin?

Two minutes on this list saves deleting and recreating a Pin later, since the image can't be changed once it's scheduled.

  1. The image is vertical, sharp, and makes sense without any text around it.
  2. The title uses the words someone would search for, within the title limit.
  3. The description says who the idea is for and what they'll find when they click.
  4. The link opens the right page on your site, on a phone as well as a computer.
  5. The board is the one that best matches the topic of the Pin.
  6. The date is inside the 30-day window and there's room in the 10-Pin queue.

What are the most common Pin scheduling mistakes?

Most failed or wasted Pins come down to a handful of avoidable slips:

  • Scheduling to the wrong board. Boards are how Pinterest understands a Pin's topic, so check the board before you finish, even though you can change it later.
  • Linking every Pin to the homepage. Send people to the page about that exact idea, product or post.
  • Letting the queue run dry. With 10 Pins at most, a two-week gap appears quickly; set a weekly reminder to top it up.
  • Planning a season too late. Seasonal ideas get searched well before the date, but native scheduling only reaches 30 days, so plan the content earlier and schedule it in batches.
  • Picking an image you might change. The media is fixed once the Pin is scheduled, so finish the design first.
