What changed with Instagram shops?

As of September 2025, shops on Facebook and Instagram use website checkout. Your shop keeps its home page, collections and product pages, but customers finish the purchase on your own website. Managing orders after purchase in Commerce Manager has been discontinued. If your shop used checkout on Instagram, Meta says the checkout method has been updated or the shop is now invisible.

Can your business sell on Instagram?

Your Instagram professional account must meet Meta's Commerce Eligibility Requirements: follow its policies, represent your business and your domain, be in a supported country, show trustworthiness, and give accurate information. Failing them can cost you commerce features or get the account disabled.

How do you set up a shop?

If you already have a Page and catalogue, you need full control of them and of the business portfolio. All products in your catalogue appear in your shop by default; you can choose which ones show and group them into collections.

  1. Create a Commerce Manager account.
  2. Add your Instagram business account to your business portfolio. If you only sell on Instagram, you don't need a Facebook business Page.
  3. In Commerce Manager, open Set up your shop.
  4. Wait for the shop info review. Meta says it can take up to 4 weeks, and it emails you if you need to act.
  5. Under Optimise your catalogue, click View details to pick a catalogue and finish syncing.
  6. Click Set up to create a delivery profile with at least one delivery speed.
  7. Add a checkout URL. Your shop isn't visible without one.
  8. Click Publish shop when every task is complete.

How do you tag products in a post?

You can tag up to 20 products and shops in a photo post. A carousel of up to 10 photos and videos can have 20 tags in total. You can tag new and existing posts, and shopping tags also work in stories and reels, though Instagram says adding products to reels applies only to legacy shop catalogues. If you have a shop, products you tag are added to it automatically.

  1. Tap Create and select Post.
  2. Choose a photo or video, add a caption and tap Next.
  3. Tap More options, then Tag products.
  4. Tap the photo or video where you want to tag a product.
  5. Search for the product and select it.
  6. Tap Done, then Share.

Who else can tag your products?

You can allow everyone, or only approved branded content partners, to tag your products. Meta's two pages give different rules for who qualifies. The tagging page says public accounts aged 13 or over that have been active in the past 30 days with no more than two policy violations, or approved partners. The overview page says people must be over 18, active, and not reported for repeated violations.

Product mentions and links in captions and profiles can no longer be added. Older mentions still show; older links have been removed.

Why isn't your shop or product tag showing?

  • The tag is still in review. It usually takes seconds, and people can't see it until it's approved
  • The tag was rejected. Tap it, then Request another review, or Remove product
  • Your shop has no checkout URL. Meta won't show it without one
  • Your commerce account is still in review, which can take up to 4 weeks
  • You're outside a supported country. Travelling outside one can also stop you tagging products
  • You post through a third-party tool. Those can tag feed posts only, not stories, reels or mentions

Posts that show off the products

Disclosure: this is our product. Zolyp doesn't manage shops or catalogues. It plans, writes and designs your Instagram posts and publishes them once you approve; you can then add product tags to a published post in Instagram. There's a 3-day free trial, no card required.
