How to repost on Instagram

Reposting shares someone's public reel or post with your followers without making a new post. Your followers may see it in their feeds, and it sits in a dedicated Reposts tab on your profile. Comments people leave on your repost reach you as direct messages. Instagram says the feature may not be available to everyone yet.

Our advice for a business: repost customers' and partners' content about you, and add a note saying why. Ask first if it's not obvious they'd welcome it.

1. Open the Instagram app.
2. On a public reel or post, tap Repost.
3. To add text, tap the bubble by your profile picture at the bottom left of the reel or post.
4. Type what you'd like to say.
5. Tap Save.

• To undo a repost, tap Repost again on that reel or post
• You can't repost a repost. Only the original creator's content can be reposted

1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then the Reposts tab on your profile.
2. To manage several at once, tap Menu in the top right, then Your activity, then Reposts.
3. Select each reel or post you want to remove and tap Delete.

A story share lasts as a story rather than sitting on your profile:

1. Tap Share below the photo or video in Feed.
2. Tap Add to story.
3. Tap Next in the bottom right.
4. Tap Share.

• It only works for public accounts that allow resharing, and isn't available to everyone
• Anyone who views your story can see and tap through to the original account
• You can't see who has reshared your reel, or where

Instagram notes that when you allow others to remix or reshare your content, the reshared content may be indexed and shown in search engine results.

1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then Menu in the top right.
2. Below How others can interact with you, tap Sharing and reuse.
3. Turn off Reposts on posts and reels to stop reposts, or Posts and reels to stories to stop future story reshares.

• The account is private. Only public reels and posts can be reposted
• The creator has turned off reposts of their content
• It's already a repost. Find the original and repost that
• Reposting hasn't reached your account. Instagram says it may not be available to everyone
• Sharing to story is missing. The owner needs a public account with resharing allowed
• Someone reposted your content in a way you object to. Long-press the profile picture on the repost, tap Report and follow the steps
