Find your best time to post on InstagramWhat the published studies found
These are other companies' studies, summarised in our words with a link to each. They measure different accounts in different ways, so read them as a starting point to test, not a rule.
Buffer
Midweek did best: Wednesday was the strongest day, followed by Thursday and Tuesday, while Friday and Saturday were weakest. The top single slots were Thursday morning and Wednesday at midday and early evening. Buffer normalised the times so you read them in your audience's local time.
Sample: 9.6 million Instagram posts sent through Buffer, part of a wider set of 52 million posts across 10 platforms and 200,000+ accounts, January 2024 to December 2025. Measured by median engagement rate.. Published 23 September 2026. Best Time to Post on Instagram in 2026: Data from 9.6 Million Posts, checked 14 October 2026.
Hootsuite
Hootsuite does not name one best day. Its windows change day by day, with engagement tending to peak in early mornings and late afternoons to early evenings, especially early in the week. Times were localised across 118 countries, so they are meant to be read as local time.
Sample: Over 1 million social posts from businesses of all sizes, analysed with the data science agency Critical Truth. The number of accounts and the date range are not stated.. Published 14 July 2026. The best time to post on Instagram [2026 data], checked 14 October 2026.
Later
Later found very early posting worked best: around 5am overall, with Monday the strongest day and posts between midnight and 6am getting the highest average engagement. Its times are normalised to the audience's local time zone.
Sample: Over 6 million Instagram feed posts (images, videos, carousels and Reels) from January to October 2024. The number of accounts is not stated.. Published 21 April 2026. Best time to post on Instagram in 2026 (based on 6M+ posts), checked 14 October 2026.
Sprout Social
Midweek afternoons led, with Tuesday and Wednesday showing the highest peaks and the longest windows running from around midday into the evening. Weekends had the lowest engagement. All times are in the audience's local time.
Sample: Nearly 2 billion engagements across about 307,000 social profiles on six networks, from over 30,000 Sprout Social customers, collected 27 November 2025 to 27 February 2026.. Published 31 March 2026. Best times to post on Instagram in 2026, checked 14 October 2026.
Where they agree: Buffer and Sprout Social both put midweek ahead and weekends behind, and Hootsuite's strongest windows also fall early in the week. They split on the hour: Sprout and Buffer lean late morning to evening, Later found around 5am best, and Hootsuite's best window moves from day to day.
What Instagram itself says
Instagram's Feed is ranked, not shown in time order. Meta says the system scores about 500 candidate posts by how relevant each is likely to be to you and orders the feed by that score. Tapping Following shows accounts you follow in reverse time order instead.

Instagram's own insights include the times your followers are most active on Instagram. This sits in your follower insights and needs a public account with at least 100 followers.

How to see when your Instagram audience is online
Instagram shows when your followers are most active. You need a public account and at least 100 followers to see it.
- Make sure your account is public. Insights only work on public accounts, and professional accounts get the professional dashboard.
- In the app, open your profile and go to your professional dashboard or insights. On instagram.com, select Dashboard in the left menu, then Insights under For professionals.
- Open your follower insights (Total followers). This part needs at least 100 followers.
- Scroll to the section showing the times your followers are most active on Instagram and note the busiest days and hours.
- Schedule your next few posts just before that window, then compare their results in post insights after two to three weeks.

Tips that work whatever the study says
- Post 30 to 60 minutes before your followers' busiest hour, so the post is already there when they arrive.
- Change one thing at a time. Move one posting slot, keep it for two to three weeks, then compare reach and interactions with the old slot.
- Use your audience's time zone, not yours. Check the top locations in your follower insights before you pick a slot.
- Reels can keep reaching new viewers after the first day, so judge a Reel's timing over a week, not the first hour.
- A steady rhythm beats a perfect hour. Posting at roughly the same times each week makes your results easier to compare.

Common questions
What is the best day to post on Instagram?
Most recent studies point to midweek. Buffer found Wednesday strongest, followed by Thursday and Tuesday, and Sprout Social found Tuesday and Wednesday had the highest peaks. Later found Monday best. Weekends came out weakest in most studies. Your own follower activity in Insights is the better guide for your account.
Does posting time still matter with the Instagram algorithm?
Less than it used to, but it still helps. The feed is ranked by predicted relevance, not time order, so a good post can still be shown later. Posting when your followers are online gives it a better chance of early interactions, which is when most people see it.
What time zone should I use for Instagram?
Your audience's. The big studies all express their times in the audience's local time, so 9am means 9am where your followers are. Check the top locations in your follower insights. If your followers are spread across zones, pick the zone where most of them live.
Is the best time different for Reels?
Later's study says so: it reported a different best time and day for Reels than for posts overall. Reels can also keep reaching people after the first day, so test Reels timing separately and judge it over a longer window.
