How to pin posts, chats, messages and comments on Instagram

Pinned posts sit at the top of your profile grid, where new visitors look first. You can pin up to 3:

1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
2. Tap one of your posts.
3. Tap Options in the top right.
4. Tap Pin to main grid.

You can remove a pinned post from the top of your profile at any time. It goes back to its original spot in the grid:

1. Go to your profile and tap the pinned post.
2. Tap Options in the top right.
3. Tap Unpin from main grid.

Pinning a chat keeps a conversation at the top of your inbox. Instagram says this is only available for personal accounts:

1. Tap Messages at the bottom.
2. Tap and hold a conversation in your inbox.
3. Tap Pin, or tap More and then Pin. To undo, tap and hold it and tap Unpin.

• Messages: open a chat, tap and hold a message and tap Pin. It shows as a banner at the top that everyone in the chat can see
• You can pin up to 3 messages per chat. Pin a fourth and the oldest pinned message is replaced
• You can pin text, photos, videos, voice memos, GIFs, stickers, links, reels, posts, music and audio
• Message pinning isn't available for everyone yet

In a live video, yes. We couldn't find steps on Instagram's help centre for pinning comments on feed posts or reels, so we haven't listed any here. During a live:

1. Go live as usual.
2. When a comment you want everyone to see appears at the bottom of the screen, tap it.
3. Tap Pin comment. It stays where viewers can see it more easily.

Our advice, not Instagram's. Treat the three pinned spots as the first thing a new visitor reads:

• Who you are and what you sell, in one clear post
• Your most useful post: prices, a menu, opening hours or how to book
• Proof: a customer review, a before and after, or your best-performing reel
• A current offer or event, swapped out when it ends
• Review them every month or so, so the top of your profile never looks out of date

• You've reached the limit. Profiles take up to 3 pinned posts, chats up to 3 pinned chats, and each chat up to 3 pinned messages
• You're on a business or creator account trying to pin a chat. Instagram says chat pinning is only for personal accounts
• Message pinning hasn't reached your account. Instagram says it isn't available for everyone
• Your app is out of date. Update it and try again
