What does the Pinterest for Shopify app set up?
Connecting your store through the app does several jobs at once:
- Claims your website on Pinterest
- Installs the Pinterest tag and the Conversions API
- Connects your Shopify product feed to Pinterest
- Generates product Pins from that feed
- Depending on your location, makes you eligible for an ads credit when you launch your first campaign

What do you need before you connect?
Check these before you start, because the app won't finish without them:
- A Pinterest business account and an advertiser account
- Owner access: profiles with Business Manager permissions can't connect a Shopify store
- A desktop Chrome browser, which Pinterest recommends for the connection
- No manually added Pinterest tag: remove any tag you or another app added, including base, checkout and add-to-cart code, before using the app
- One Pinterest business account per store at a time. If you have two Shopify stores, Pinterest asks you to contact it
- Availability: the app isn't offered in every country, and depending on where your company is based you may need one of Pinterest's digital advertising partners to create your ad account first

How do you install the app?
The install happens from the Shopify side:
- Log in to your Shopify account.
- Go to the Pinterest app's page in the Shopify App Store.
- Review the permissions and, if you agree, click Add App.
- Follow the instructions on screen to finish installing the Pinterest app on Shopify.

What syncs, and where do you see results?
Once connected, the app keeps your catalogue up to date on a schedule:
- Your Shopify feed updates every 24 hours
- Shopify collections sync every 48 hours and appear as product groups under Manage business, Catalogs and product groups, then Product groups below your catalogue
- Products aren't advertised until you choose to create ads
- A product in an active campaign keeps being promoted even if it's out of stock in Shopify, so update the campaign if you want it to stop
- Selling in several currencies: you can create Pinterest feed profiles to match Shopify markets, but only 20 feed profiles, so some markets may be left out
- In Shopify, click Marketing to see ad spend, sales and sessions per campaign, then open a campaign and click View report. Shopify only reports last-click conversions, so view-through and cross-device conversions that Pinterest reports won't appear there

How do you fix common problems?
Pinterest's troubleshooting page covers these cases:
- Accounts show as disconnected: your password may have changed. Click Reconnect Pinterest Account and follow the steps
- Catalogue or tag not connecting, or the feed isn't importing: open Sales Channels in Shopify, open Pinterest for Shopify, and below Account choose Reset. You no longer need to uninstall and reinstall
- Domain claimed by another store or account: unclaim it on the old account, then restart the installation
- Need a different Pinterest account: in Shopify settings, open Apps and Sales Channels, click the ellipsis icon next to Pinterest and select Uninstall, then connect the other account
- Can't delete the Shopify catalogue: it can't be deleted while tied to an active campaign. Archive past and current campaigns, then remove the app, which deletes inactive catalogues by default

Common questions
Can I add the Pinterest tag to Shopify by hand instead?
It's possible, by pasting the base code above the closing head tag in theme.liquid, but Pinterest doesn't recommend it. The app adds the tag for you.
Can I connect one Shopify store to two Pinterest accounts?
No. Each Shopify store links to one Pinterest business account. Disconnect the current one, or create another Shopify store for the second account.
How often does Shopify sync products to Pinterest?
Your feed updates every 24 hours, and collections sync as product groups every 48 hours.
Why can't I connect my Shopify store to Pinterest?
Common causes are not being the account owner, having no advertiser account, a manually installed tag, a domain claimed by another account, or the app not being available in your country.
Does the app add the Pinterest tag automatically?
Yes. It installs the Pinterest tag and Conversions API, which is why Pinterest recommends it over adding the tag by hand.
