How to tag products in your Pinterest Pins

Product tags turn an inspiration Pin, such as a styled room or an outfit, into something people can shop. Pinterest says:

• You can tag up to 24 related products, your own or other merchants'
• Tagged products don't appear on the image itself; they show below or beside the Pin
• Tagged Pins can be promoted as collections ads
• On a collections Pin, people tap a search icon and white dots appear on the image, each leading to exact or similar products
• Some options may only be available to account owners above a certain age

On a computer, from a business account:

1. Click the hamburger icon at the top left and, under Create content, click Create Pin.
2. Upload an image or video, or drag one into the uploader.
3. Click Add products to the right of the Pin.
4. Choose Search Pins to find products by name, or Use a link to paste a product page from a retailer's site, which creates a new product Pin.
5. Fill in the rest of the Pin's details and click Publish.

• In the app: tap the add icon, then Pin, choose a photo, tap Next, then Tag products. Search or paste a link, tap Done, fill in the details and tap Create

On a computer:

1. Click the edit icon at the bottom right of the Pin.
2. Click Add products.
3. Search Pins by product name or use a product link.
4. Click Save.

• In the app: open the Pin, tap the ellipsis icon below it, select Edit (Edit Pin on iOS), tap Tag products, add products and tap Done

Collections Pins are tagged manually from a computer. Once the main Pin links to your claimed website, you can tag products with links from any domain:

1. From the hamburger icon, go to Create content and click Create Pin for ad.
2. Upload an image or video and add a title, description and a destination link from your claimed website.
3. Click the tag icon, then the plus-circle icon below Add products.
4. Add products from Your Pins (search by title or description), a URL, or your Catalog (an exact product ID, in lowercase).
5. Repeat until you have 3 or more products, then click Save products and Done.
6. Choose a board and click Publish.

• Adding a product by URL creates a product Pin on a protected board that only you can see, at the bottom of your profile past your secret boards

If someone tags your product in their Pin, you can remove it: click the edit icon on the Pin, click the x on the tagged product and click Save (in the app: ellipsis icon, Edit Pin, Tag products, x, Done). Other things to check:

• No Catalog option: searching by product ID needs a catalogue uploaded to Pinterest (see our catalogues guide)
• Want to run shopping ads? Only product Pins created through Catalogs can be promoted as shopping ads. Product Rich Pins can't
• Product details out of date: Pinterest says product Pins must stay up to date to show accurate information
• Products not on your profile: save your product Pins to a public board to showcase them
• Ads options missing: Pinterest shows a notice if ads or catalogues aren't available in your region
