Why keep a separate business account?

Once you've added more than one account, you can switch between them without logging out and back in. That makes it easy to keep a personal account and a business account apart in one app.

Our advice: give the business its own account rather than turning your personal one into a shop front. You can switch it to a professional account for insights and contact buttons, and hand access over later without sharing your personal messages.

What happened to single login?

Instagram used to let one login open several accounts. If you set that up before, it keeps working through Accounts Center, but you can't add new accounts to it, and an account you remove can't be added back. Each account also keeps its own password. To remove one:

  1. Go to your profile, tap Menu, then Accounts Center.
  2. Tap Logging in with accounts.
  3. Tap Choose which accounts can log into other accounts and tap the account.
  4. Below Which accounts can [name] log in to, tap Uncheck next to the account to remove and follow the instructions.

Why can't you add or switch accounts?

  • You already have 10 accounts logged in, which is Instagram's limit. Log out of one first
  • An account uses two-factor authentication, so you'll need its login code or to confirm the login
  • You're trying to add an account to an old single login. That's no longer possible, so log in with the account's own password
  • The menu looks different. Instagram is moving people to Meta Accounts, so you may see Accounts Center or Meta Account settings
  • You changed one account's own password or removed it from a single login. It can't be added back, so log in with that account's password

Up to 10, according to Instagram's help centre.

How do you switch Instagram accounts?

Go to your profile, tap your username at the top of the screen and tap the account you want.

Can a new Instagram profile share my login?

Yes, if you tap Allow and continue to add it to your Accounts Center while creating it. Tap Create password instead if you want it to have its own password.

Can I still add accounts to Instagram single login?

No. You can keep using an existing single login and remove accounts from it, but new accounts can't be added, and removed accounts can't be added back.
