Special hours, More hours or Temporarily closed?

Special hours change your times for particular dates without touching your regular week. Google's hours pages split the options like this:

  • On official holidays, Google may show a warning on your profile that your hours might differ. Setting special hours in advance tells customers your actual times.
  • Google suggests confirming your hours for official holidays even when they're the same as usual, so customers know they're accurate.

How do you set special hours?

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Hours.
  3. In the Business hours section, next to Special hours, select Edit.
  4. Choose the date: select Review to confirm a suggested date, select Add a date to set your own, or select an existing date to change it.
  5. If you're open that day, untick Closed and enter your opening and closing times. If you're closed, leave Closed ticked.
  6. Select Save.
  • Saved special hours appear in the Hours tab of your business information, and under Special hours in Edit profile.
  • To delete special hours on a closed day, select Delete next to the date. On an open day, select More next to the hours, then Remove day.

How do you add split or overnight hours?

For a day with a break, such as a lunch closing, select More, then Add hours, and enter a second set of times for the same date.

A single set of special hours can't be longer than 24 hours. If you're open from the evening through to the next afternoon, enter one set that runs to midnight on the first day and a second set that starts at midnight on the second day. Google notes that special hours on that second day replace its regular hours, so add any later opening that day as another set.

  • Several locations? Use the Special hours column in the bulk upload spreadsheet, in the format YYYY-MM-DD: HH:MM-HH:MM, with x for a day closed all day.
  • If you upload only special hours, include just the store code and special hours columns. Empty columns, or headings with nothing beneath, erase that existing information.

How do you set More hours for a service?

More hours show times for things like delivery, takeaway, drive-through or pickup. Google suggests keeping them within your main hours: a restaurant open 6 AM to 9 PM might show takeaway from 10 AM to 6 PM.

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Hours.
  3. Under Add more hours, choose a type, such as Drive through. Set each type separately.
  4. Select the days and set the hours that apply.
  5. Click Save.

Why aren't your special hours showing?

Check these in order:

  • Your profile isn't set to Open with main hours. Special hours only show when it is, and More hours don't show until you set regular hours.
  • The change is still under review. Google says edits usually take up to 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days, so set holiday hours well before the date.
  • You're closed for longer than special hours allow. For 7 days or more, mark the business temporarily closed instead.
  • Your hours are seasonal. Google's guidelines say to set regular hours while you're open for the season, and mark the business temporarily closed in the off-season.

Common questions

Do special hours change my regular hours?

No. Special hours apply only to the dates you set, and your regular hours stay as they are.

Can I set special hours for a week or longer?

Special hours cover closures of up to 6 days in a row. For 7 days or more, or an unknown period, Google says to mark the business temporarily closed.

Why does Google say my hours might differ on a holiday?

On official holidays, Google may show that warning. Set special hours for the date, even if they match your usual hours, so customers see confirmed times.

Can I add two sets of hours on one day?

Yes. When setting special hours, select More, then Add hours, and enter the second set.

Can I set holiday hours for many locations at once?

Yes. Use the Special hours column in the bulk upload spreadsheet, then save and import it.
