Where do Business Profile ads appear?

Google says these ads reach people who search for businesses or browse an area in Google Maps and who are nearby or show interest in your location. They can appear on Google Maps, the Google Search Network, the Google Display Network and YouTube.

You supply your store locations, a budget and ad assets, and Google's automated systems choose bids, placements and which combinations of assets to show.

How do you link your profile to a Smart campaign?

In Google Ads, a Smart campaign can be linked to one Business Profile. The link has to be made while you create the campaign; it can't be added afterwards. First check that the same email address is an Administrator in Google Ads and an Owner or Manager of the Business Profile.

  1. In Google Ads, click the Campaigns icon.
  2. Open the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu and click Campaigns.
  3. Click the plus button, then New campaign.
  4. Select a goal for the campaign.
  5. When asked, choose the Business Profile to advertise and link the accounts.
  6. Finish creating the Smart campaign.
  • Linked ads can show your business address and link to your Business Profile or Maps driving directions. You can turn these off.
  • Smart campaigns are created in Smart Mode. To advertise several profiles, create a separate Smart campaign for each.

Why can't you advertise your profile?

Check these against Google's rules:

  • The profile isn't verified. Google requires verification before you set up an ad campaign from your profile.
  • You're a service-area business or in a sensitive category. These can't advertise through the Maps app.
  • Your profile doesn't appear when you build a Smart campaign. The same email must be an Administrator in Google Ads and an Owner or Manager of the profile.
  • You created the campaign without linking the profile. A link can't be added later, so create a new Smart campaign.
  • The link broke. It's removed if your email loses access to the profile, and restored if access comes back. Unlinking Google Ads on the profile's Linked accounts page unlinks every campaign tied to it.
  • You want to pause or change billing. Google's Business Profile page doesn't cover this; manage it in Google Ads.
