What does domain verification do?
Meta describes it as a way to confirm you're connected to your business. It also lets you control who can edit link previews and ad links that point to your website, for both organic and paid content. Meta recommends it when:
- You want to manage ad link editing permissions, seeing which advertisers run ads pointing to your domain and who may edit those links.
- You want to edit organic links pointing to your domain, and let partners do the same.
- You're registering for the news Page index, which requires a verified domain.
- You sell on Facebook commerce surfaces and send buyers to your own website.
- You're applying for business verification without a business phone number, or your email domain doesn't match your website.

What do you need before you start?
Meta lists three requirements:
- A business portfolio.
- Full control of that business portfolio.
- Admin or developer access to your domain, or someone who has it (your web developer, for example).
- Verify the root domain only. Meta says you only need to verify subdomains when onboarding to Facebook Commerce.

How do you add your domain?
In Meta Business Suite on a computer:
- Go to Settings, then Domains in the Brand safety section.
- Click + Add in the top right.
- Click Create a domain (or Request access to a domain if another portfolio already owns it).
- Enter the root domain without any prefix: website.com, not www.website.com or https://website.com.
- Click Add, then choose one of the three verification methods below.
- When the method is in place, click Verify domain.

Which verification method should you use?
All three work. Pick the one that matches the access you have. Once the domain is verified, Meta says you can remove the tag, file or record without affecting your status.
| Method | What you do |
|---|---|
| Meta tag | Copy the tag Meta shows you, paste it into the head section of your home page's HTML, publish, then view the page source to check it's there. |
| HTML file | Download the verification file without changing it, upload it to your domain's root directory, then use the link in Settings to check the code is visible. |
| DNS TXT record | Copy the TXT record, add it in your domain registrar's DNS records section, then use a DNS TXT lookup tool to confirm it has updated. |

Why won't your domain verify?
Meta's troubleshooting page covers these errors:
- Invalid domain: you entered a subdomain, a subdirectory, a trailing slash or https://. Domains can only contain letters, numbers and hyphens, and a hyphen can't be first or last.
- Already verified by another business: ask that business to share the domain with you. This can also happen when a previous owner of the domain verified it.
- No DNS entries or no matching record: check the TXT record matches the code exactly, using a DNS lookup tool.
- File not found or redirected: the HTML file must sit at the root. Meta allows a redirect from your domain to www and between http and https, but no other redirects.
- Meta tag not found: Meta's crawler doesn't run JavaScript, so the tag must be in the static page, not added by a script. Run the home page through the Sharing Debugger to see what the crawler saw, including expired certificate warnings.
- Code doesn't match: the HTML file must contain nothing else, and the tag must be copied exactly. If all else fails, refresh, try again, then contact support.

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Zolyp doesn't verify domains or change your business portfolio settings; that stays with whoever has full control. It looks after the posting side of your Page once the admin work is done.
Zolyp plans the week across your content themes, writes the captions and designs the visuals against your Brand Brain (your tone, colours and rules, saved once), then schedules and publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads. You review and approve the week, and Autopilot lets you hand off publishing theme by theme once you trust the output. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial and no card required.
Common questions
Is Facebook domain verification free?
Yes. Meta says it's free to verify your domains.
Can I verify a subdomain on Facebook?
No, except when onboarding to Facebook Commerce. Verify the root domain instead; Meta says that also gives you control of its subdomains.
Can I remove the meta tag after my domain is verified?
Yes. Meta says you can remove the meta tag, DNS TXT record or HTML file afterwards without affecting your verification status.
Does verifying my domain give my Page a blue tick?
No. Meta says business verification is different from Meta Verified for businesses and won't give you a verified badge.
What if another business has already verified my domain?
Ask that business to share the domain with your portfolio, or use Request access to a domain. Meta notes this often happens when a previous owner verified it.
