How to schedule YouTube videos

In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Upload videos, add your file and details, open the Schedule card, set the date, time and time zone, and select Schedule. The video stays private until that moment, then goes public. To move it, open the video under Content, edit Visibility while it's still private, and pick a new time; to release it now, set it to Public.

How do you schedule a YouTube video?

YouTube calls this scheduled publishing: a private video that goes public at a time you set. The steps from YouTube Help:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio (or use the YouTube app).
  2. Select Create, then Upload videos.
  3. Select the file and enter the video's details.
  4. Click the Schedule card.
  5. Set the date, time and time zone for the video to go public.
  6. Select Schedule.

How do you change or cancel a scheduled publish time?

Changing the time only works while the video is still private; once it's public, it's published.

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Content in the left menu.
  2. Select the video, click Edit, and open Visibility.
  3. To move the time, keep the visibility Private, click Edit draft and choose a new time under Schedule.
  4. To release it right away, set visibility to Public and select Publish.

Why does the date under my video look wrong?

YouTube dates the watch page in Pacific Standard Time. If you're ahead of PST and upload, or schedule a video to go public, late in your day, the date under the video can be a day earlier than the one in YouTube Studio. If a particular date matters, schedule the video to go public on that date in Pacific time.

What happens to scheduled videos after a Community Guidelines strike?

During a strike's penalty period, a scheduled video won't publish. YouTube keeps it private for the length of the penalty, and you have to reschedule it once the freeze ends, so check your schedule after any strike.

What does a sustainable upload routine look like?

Scheduling is what makes a regular upload day realistic for a small team:

  1. Pick one upload day and time you can keep every week, and schedule each video for it as soon as it's finished.
  2. Upload a few days early so there's time to check captions, the title and the thumbnail before it goes public.
  3. Write the title around what someone would search for, and the first lines of the description around the question the video answers.
  4. Plan the Shorts and community posts that point to the video for the same week.
  5. Keep one finished video in reserve, scheduled for later, for the week something goes wrong.

How do you plan the week a video comes out?

A scheduled video still needs people to know it exists. A simple launch week for a small channel:

  1. Schedule the video for the time your audience is usually free, and set the time zone on the Schedule card to theirs, not yours.
  2. The day before, post a short teaser on the networks where your customers already follow you.
  3. When it goes public, share it with one line about the question it answers, rather than just the link.
  4. Pin a comment with the most useful link or the next step, and answer the first comments yourself.
  5. A few days later, cut a short clip from the best moment and use it to point back to the full video.

What doesn't YouTube's scheduler solve?

YouTube Studio schedules the video itself. The work around it (the posts on other networks that tell people it's out, and keeping the rest of your social calendar moving) is still yours.

  • No posts for Instagram, LinkedIn or X announcing the video
  • No help with titles, descriptions or thumbnails
  • A strike quietly stops scheduled videos until you reschedule them

What does Zolyp check before a YouTube upload?

YouTube accepts almost any video file, so most failed uploads come from the text fields and from how many videos go out in a day. These are the limits Zolyp checks a YouTube post against, the same figures listed in the docs:

LimitYouTube
TitleUp to 100 characters
DescriptionUp to 5,000 characters
Video fileAny video format, up to 256 GB
Uploads per connected account10 in any 24 hours
Custom thumbnailStandard videos only, not Shorts

What should you check before a scheduled video goes public?

A scheduled video is private until its time, which gives you a window to catch mistakes nobody else has seen yet. Use it:

  1. Watch the uploaded file to the end; processing occasionally trims or garbles the last seconds.
  2. Read the title aloud. If it doesn't say what the viewer gets, rewrite it before it goes public.
  3. Check that the first two lines of the description make sense on their own, since that's what shows before Show more.
  4. Review the automatic captions for names and product terms they often get wrong.
  5. Confirm the time zone on the Schedule card matches the audience you're publishing for.

YouTube shows the watch-page date in Pacific Standard Time, so it can differ from your local date.

How long can a YouTube title be?

Up to 100 characters, with up to 5,000 characters for the description.

Can you add a custom thumbnail to a Short through Zolyp?
