How to add a link in your TikTok bio

The website link depends on your account type and follower count. TikTok's help centre sets it out like this:

Once your account qualifies, the steps are:

1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap Edit profile.
3. Next to Links, tap Add.
4. Follow the steps to link your website.

The bio is the short text above your link. TikTok's help article describes editing it on the website, and notes the feature isn't available on TikTok Mobile Web. Bios can't exceed 80 characters, so use them to say what you do and why someone should tap the link.

1. Go to tiktok.com on a computer and click your profile picture in the top corner.
2. Select View Profile.
3. Click Edit profile, then Bio.
4. Enter the new bio and click Save.

TikTok recommends direct links, so people reach the page you intend in a few steps. Its in-app browser opens the page, and for safety it limits how far people can follow chains of external links, which may prompt them to open the page in their phone's own browser instead.

• Link straight to the page you want visits to, such as a booking page or product page, rather than through a chain of redirects.
• Links to other social networks should point to their websites, not try to open their apps.
• Add tracking parameters if you want to see TikTok visits in your website analytics.

Switching account type has trade-offs, especially for music, so read the account types guide before you change.

• If your main goal on TikTok is to promote a business, TikTok says you should use a Verified Business Account, which can post a website link regardless of followers.
• Use your bio text and video descriptions to tell people where to find you until the link unlocks.
• For paid reach, TikTok Promote has a More website visits goal that sends viewers of a promoted video to your site.

Before entering personal details on any site opened from a profile link, TikTok advises checking the site is legitimate and secure.

• There's no Links option: your General account has fewer than 1,000 followers.
• The link won't open in the app: TikTok's safety measures may ask visitors to open it in their device's browser.
• A link to another social app doesn't work: TikTok no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps. Use the platform's web address.
• You spot a suspicious link on someone else's profile: tap the link, tap More options (the three dots) at the top, then Report.
