TikTok Duet and Stitch: how to make them and who can use yours

A Duet plays your video side by side with another creator's, both at the same time. A Stitch uses a part of their video at the start of yours. To make either, tap Share on the video, then Duet or Stitch, record and post. To control who can use your videos, go to Settings and privacy, Privacy, then Reuse of content.

How do you control who can Duet or Stitch your videos?

One setting, Reuse of content, covers both. TikTok notes that turning it off also stops people creating stickers from your posts or adding them to their Story. To set it for your whole account:

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button (three lines), then Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy, then Reuse of content.
  4. Tap Allow reuse of content from and choose Everyone or Friends.
  • For one new video: on the Post screen, tap More options and switch Allow reuse of content on or off.
  • For a video already posted: tap More options (the three dots), then Privacy settings, and switch Allow reuse of content.

How do you remove Duets or Stitches made with your video?

Go to Settings and privacy, Privacy, Reuse of content, then Reuse of content history. Pick the video, tap More options and tap Remove all posts.

Read the warning first: TikTok says this permanently removes your original video as well as every Duet and Stitch made with it. Download your original before you do it. If more than 10 posts are involved, you may have to confirm the account is yours.

Changing your settings later doesn't remove what already exists. TikTok says Stitches made before you limited access stay on TikTok.

How can a small business use Duets and Stitches?

If you post as a business, TikTok's Business Help Center says the Commercial Music Library applies to organic content including Duets and Stitches, so check the music in the original before you build on it.

  • Stitch a question someone asked in a video and answer it.
  • Duet a customer's video of your product, with their permission, to say thank you or show a tip.
  • Stitch a common myth in your trade and correct it.
  • Duet a tutorial and follow along with your own product.
  • Leave Allow reuse of content on for your own how-to videos, so customers can respond to them.

What if someone Duets or Stitches your video in a way you don't like?

Under-18s have their own settings. TikTok points teens to its privacy and safety settings page for how Duet and Stitch work for them.

  • Report the video if it breaks TikTok's Community Guidelines.
  • If it violates your privacy rights, use TikTok's online privacy report form.
  • Limit future reuse to Friends, or turn Allow reuse of content off for that video.
  • As a last resort, remove all Duets and Stitches of the video, knowing your original goes too.

Common questions

Why can't I Duet or Stitch a TikTok?

The creator has turned off Allow reuse of content for that video, has limited it to Friends, or has a private account.

Does turning off Duet also turn off Stitch?

Yes. Both are controlled by the Allow reuse of content setting, which also covers stickers and adding your post to someone's Story.

Where do Duets and Stitches appear?

Only on the profile of the person who made them. Your original stays on your profile.

Can I delete a Duet someone made with my video?

You can remove all Duets and Stitches of a video from Reuse of content history, but this also permanently deletes your original video.

Can a private TikTok account allow Duets or Stitches?

No. TikTok says you need a public account to let others Duet or Stitch your videos.
