What do you need to post a free job on LinkedIn?
Before you start, check these LinkedIn requirements:
- A personal LinkedIn account. Free jobs are posted from a member account, not from a Recruiter contract.
- A company LinkedIn Page. Free job posts must be linked to your company's Page.
- A business that isn't a search or staffing agency. Those companies have to promote every job.
- Enough trust signals on your account. In some cases LinkedIn asks you to promote the job or verify your identity with a government-issued ID before posting free.

What are the limits on a free LinkedIn job post?
LinkedIn's current limits for free jobs:
- What happens at the applicant limit differs between LinkedIn's pages: one says the job is paused and removed from search; the other says it stays reachable by direct link or your company's jobs tab but is hidden from search. Either way, you have to promote it to unpause it.
- Hiring several people for the same role? Wait 7 days between free posts, or promote them.
| Rule | Free job |
|---|---|
| Active at once | One |
| Free jobs per 30 days | A limited number (LinkedIn doesn't publish it) |
| How long it stays active | Up to 14 days, then it's paused |
| If you don't promote it | It closes automatically after 30 days |
| Applicants | Typically 10 to 30, depending on the role |
| Search visibility | Drops over time as newer jobs appear |
| Reposting the same title and company | Not free within 7 days; you must promote it |
| Extras | 25 recommended candidates and one evaluation of a top-fit applicant |

What does promoting a LinkedIn job add?
Promoting is paid. You set a daily average or total budget at checkout, and the job pauses when the budget is used. LinkedIn lists these differences from a free job:
- Shown at the top of search results, with a Promoted tag, and in prominent job recommendation spots.
- Unlimited applicants and unlimited applicant evaluations.
- Stays active until you close it, or for up to 6 months.
- Up to 350 invites to recommended candidates, 5 InMail messages per job and 40 AI video interviews.
- If a promoted job's free trial ends and you don't want to pay, close the job, or LinkedIn charges your budget.

Why can't I post my job for free?
The usual reasons, from LinkedIn's help pages:
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Only a Promote option | You already have an active free job | Close the other job or promote this one |
| Must promote a repost | Same title and company within 7 days | Wait 7 days or promote |
| Must promote every job | Your Page is classed as search or staffing | If that's wrong, open a ticket with LinkedIn support |
| Asked to verify identity | LinkedIn lacks trust signals on your account | Verify with a government ID, or promote |
| Job paused | 14 days passed or it hit the applicant limit | Promote to unpause, or close it |

Where Zolyp fits
Zolyp, which publishes this guide, is our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. A job post reaches job seekers; a post on your profile or company Page tells the people who already follow you. Zolyp can write and schedule that hiring announcement alongside your other LinkedIn posts. LinkedIn is one of the 9 platforms it publishes to (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Threads), and you approve the week before anything goes live. Plans that create the posts start at $29 a month, with a 3-day free trial.
