When does Pinterest charge you for ads?
Pinterest charges for accumulated spend on your active ads on the first day of the next month, or when you hit your billing threshold, whichever comes first.
- A billing threshold is an amount of spend that triggers a charge at the end of that day
- Your first threshold is small. Pinterest's example is $50: once spend reaches $50, you're charged at the end of that day
- Each successful payment clears your balance and raises the threshold, until it reaches a final amount
- You're charged for all spend up to the end of the day you hit the threshold, so the charge can be more than the threshold
- In a month you might hit the threshold once, several times or never. If you never do, you're charged on the 1st of the next month
- To stop further spend, pause your ads

How do you set a custom billing threshold?
A custom billing threshold triggers charges sooner than your normal threshold, which helps keep card charges small. You can pick $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or System Default, but only options at or below your current threshold appear, and it's only for ad accounts billed in US dollars. To set it:
- Log in to your business account and click the menu icon at the top left.
- Under Manage business, select Billing.
- On the Summary tab, find Bill threshold under Recent spend and click Edit.
- Choose an amount, or click Set to default.
- Click Confirm.
- Changes take effect within 24 hours for future billing cycles
- If your current bill is already over the new threshold, you're charged at the end of the UTC day

How do you add or change your payment details?
Pinterest says business and billing information can only be updated on a computer:
- Log in to your business account and click the hamburger icon at the top left.
- Under Manage business, select Billing, then Payment settings.
- Click Business information, add your business name and address (and VAT or GST details if your country needs them) and save.
- Click Billing information, enter your billing address and your primary card.
- Add a backup card, which Pinterest uses if the primary card has problems, then click Save.
- Pinterest may make a small temporary authorisation to check the card
- Removing your payment method suspends active campaigns. Any unpaid balance is charged to the card on file when the spend happened
- You can't change an ad account's currency. If you picked the wrong one, you have to create a new ad account
- Find past charges under Billing, Billing history

Which payment methods does Pinterest accept?
Pinterest accepts major credit and debit cards and doesn't accept prepaid cards, PayPal or cards it doesn't list. Card types and currencies vary by country:
- Visa and Mastercard are accepted. American Express isn't accepted in every country or currency
- Debit cards from Revolut and Wise are listed
- Pay by Bank direct debit is available for euro accounts in France and Germany
- Accepted currencies include USD, CAD, GBP, EUR and AUD, among others
- Prepaid billing, where available, lets you pay in advance; campaigns pause when the balance runs out. Choosing it means you can't switch that ad account to another billing method later
- Eligible advertisers can be invoiced monthly against a credit limit, arranged through an account manager once any failed card charges are cleared

What should you do if a payment is declined?
Pinterest emails you when a payment fails. Your campaigns may pause until a payment goes through. To retry:
- Click Retry payment in the email. It opens your billing history.
- Click Retry next to the failed payment. It shows as Pending until it's retried, and Pinterest emails you the result.
- Check the card number, expiry date and security code
- Make sure the billing address matches what your bank has on file
- Check the card type is on Pinterest's accepted list
- Call your bank. Pinterest says the most common cause is the card's limit or balance
- To use a different card, update your billing information
