Is it a suspension or a temporary block?

Pinterest uses several messages that look alike. Work out which one you have before you do anything else:

  • Suspended or deactivated: you see an error or deactivation notice when you try to log in. Pinterest says this usually means something on the account didn't follow its Community Guidelines
  • Login blocked or can't save a Pin because of suspicious activity: Pinterest may have blocked activity from your IP address or area. Wait 30 minutes and try again; most limits are removed automatically
  • Rate limit block: a temporary block after repeating the same action too many times quickly. Wait a few minutes; Pinterest says most limits are removed automatically within 24 hours
  • We protected your account: Pinterest reset your password after unusual activity. Reset it to get back in (see our hacked account guide)
  • Pins or boards missing: you may have created a second account by mistake, which Pinterest says is common after getting a new phone. Log out and look for your original account

Why does Pinterest suspend accounts?

Pinterest checks content with automated systems and human review. Pins, comments, photos, messages or accounts dedicated to content that breaks its rules can lead to deactivation, after a single violation or repeated ones, in these areas:

  • Pinner safety, such as hateful speech, pornography, graphic imagery and misinformation
  • Account security, including impersonation and third-party logins
  • Spam
  • Intellectual property
  • Pinterest's enforcement page adds that it may remove an account after one severe violation, and may first limit an account's ability to post or save
  • When an account is deactivated, all its Pins and boards are deactivated too

How do you appeal a suspended Pinterest account?

Pinterest says appeals can be made in the product, through the help centre, or from the enforcement email:

  1. Read the notice or email Pinterest sent, and note the reason it gives.
  2. If you received an enforcement email, use its one-click appeal link.
  3. Otherwise, open Pinterest's account deactivation help page and use the get in touch with us link, which opens the help centre contact form for account suspension appeals.
  4. Explain briefly why you think the decision is wrong, and send the request.
  5. Wait for Pinterest's reply. It says it will review the request and get back to you, but doesn't publish a timeframe.
  • For removals about copyright or other intellectual property, follow Pinterest's copyright policy instead (see our copyright guide)
  • Don't send the same appeal again and again. Pinterest may limit appeals from people who repeatedly send clearly unfounded ones, for a period of one year, and may limit how many times one decision can be appealed

What extra options do you have in the EU?

Under the EU Digital Services Act, Pinterest's help centre lists three routes if it took action on your account by mistake:

  • Appeal within six months through the Reports and Violations Center
  • Contact a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, including after an appeal you disagree with. Its decisions aren't binding on you or Pinterest, and each body sets its own filing process
  • Challenge the decision in court under the law that applies to you

How do you avoid another suspension or block?

Most business suspensions and blocks come down to spam signals. Pinterest's spam rules and help pages say:

  • Don't use automation that Pinterest hasn't explicitly approved. Its Partners website lists approved partner tools
  • Don't create or save repetitive, deceptive or irrelevant content to make money, and avoid uploading content that already exists on Pinterest. Duplicates can get you flagged as spam and temporarily blocked from creating Pins
  • Don't link to unsafe, deceptive or unoriginal websites, or redirect existing Pins to new destinations
  • Don't send repeated unsolicited messages or repetitive comments
  • Don't run several accounts to manipulate the platform, buy engagement or stuff irrelevant keywords
  • Vary what you do. Logging in a lot, following many people quickly or saving lots of Pins from one website in a short time can trigger rate limits
  • Pinterest has announced updated Community Guidelines from 12 November 2026, so reread them after that date

Common questions

How long does a Pinterest appeal take?

Pinterest doesn't publish a timeframe. It says it will review your request and get back to you.

What happens to my Pins when my account is suspended?

Pinterest says that when it deactivates an account, all of the Pins and boards on it are deactivated too, so nobody can see them.

Why does Pinterest say my login was blocked for suspicious activity?

Its anti-spam limits may have blocked activity from your IP address or area. Wait 30 minutes and try again; most limits are removed automatically.

Can I just start a new Pinterest account?

Pinterest's spam rules say not to create new accounts to get around its guidelines. Appeal the decision on your existing account first.

Can I appeal more than once?

Pinterest may limit how many times a decision can be appealed, and may restrict people who send repeated unfounded appeals.
